Edited by: Fireblade Stu on 21/12/2009 11:50:15 Right something to pick yer brains about, mate of mine was out mineing and leaving his stuff in a can in 0.7 hi-sec. Pirate crops up and manages to "claim" his can with his stuff, i.e. it turned yellow, mate goes to get his stuff out the can, in effect flipping the pirates can and gets a dirty big hole blown in him for his efforts. So how did the pirate manage to claim my mates can to begin with?
Also same system, he tries to hunt him down in something that can shoot back, warps into an asteriod belt and gets podded on the spot. Says he cant find a loss mail etc with details as to whats gone on.
Anyone got any ideas what happened?

Edited by: Intense Thinker on 21/12/2009 12:08:56 a jetcan is just that... a jettisoned can. It doesn't have a lock and anyone can take from it. Once it is taken the person who took it can be fired on by the owner. when your friend took it back he stole it from the pirate and the pirate was given kill rights. Go to the character sheet and check the combat log for the km

Ok cheers, so how do you actually "take" a can then rather than just take from it?

EDIT: mate got taken out by a sonic shockwave. IM trying to find anything on it in the EVE database. Anyone got a linky to what that is?
Jettison your own can and move the contents from one can to another.

I used to let "pirates" do that to a guy in my corp, then I blew up the flippers for fun. I got many easy kills that way, since most of teh flippers had total fail fits. And the the frigats did not matter if was fail fitted or not since they never could cope with my cruiser, hehe.
There was one time a Jag needed backup form a Schim tho, that was kinda fail on the Jags part since he never manage to keep his tackle up.
So to OP (even tho its a troll): Just kill em if they flip you.

Why do people think this is a troll thread? Between me and my mate we have just over 2 months of EVE time between us, we dont ask this stuff we are never going to know whats going on and what to watch for.
He couldnt fight back as he was in a miner and my PVE fit Rifter isnt exactly going to scare him much either. Now we know people can drop stuff in a can to claim it as their own, so its better to get trained up in something with decent cargo space as cans are a bit of a liability.

OK then, the 'solar wind' was probably smartbombs which have an area of effect explosion and require no lock.
the 'swapped can' is actually the can flippers newly made can ... renamed to appear to be yours, right click show info on it to see who the true owner is. Signature needs to be in English only. Zymurgist |

OK so it was really more a case of bad timeing then, he said when he was warping in, just heard a lot of noise when he dropped from warp and then was back on his original station 27 jumps away.
When I warped to the asteriod belt a few mins after he got popped I found the remains of his ship and quite a lot of Concord kicking about so something had clearly been going on.
Daft question on the can thing though, im guessing your original can is still present in the area as well? I.e. I make a can and then he makes a can with the same name, it wont "overwrite" my original can in the system. I.e. You could have multiple users all throwing out cans under the same name if they wanted too and they will all stay in the area. (Yes im a n00b to the whole online MMORPG thing).

Most definitely...
He takes the ore from your can and puts it in a new can, renames it to whatever you called yours originally.
Your can pops since it's empty.
He is now aggressed to you and you are free to shoot him. He cannot freely shoot at you at this time.
You then go take ore from what you think is your can, your can popped, it's his, flagging yourself to him so he can attack. Signature needs to be in English only. Zymurgist |

Thats a very clever little trick that. Need to watch for it in future. Thanks Lady Spank.

Except for the fact that he gets that neat little warning that asks you "do you really want to take from someone else's can?". Unless of course he's turned it off, at which point he shouldn't need this explained anyhow. |

And if he did turn the warning off while still needing this explained, he needed to be taught through the cleansing AoE fire of knowledge and absolution.

#1 RULE in jet can mining - DON'T eat the yellow snow.
#2 RULE - DON'T jet can mine in any system
You or as you say your friend took stuff from a can he thought was his. HE/YOU lost it when the can was tipped.
