Without going into huge detail, a friend of mine joins EVE, starts pewpewpewing in faction warfare among other things.
He posted up a rather lengthy review of it, which I think is rather accurate. It really demonstrates how ****ing huge EVE is. Especially this:
Quote: There are 32 ship types, each bearing 1-4 different ships , per each race. Plus, there is the new Tech III class of cruisers, which allows for enormous numbers of combinations of subsystems to form unique ships. This is also not including special faction variants of different ships from the regular factions, plus some pirate factions.
It's a good way to see the game through a newbie's eyes.
TLDR newbie starts playing EVE, makes gigantic blog post reminding me why I love this game. **** yeah CCP.

Sadly you never actually get to see - not to mention use - all the great ships because grid doesn't load.
Fixed that for you.

Counterfixed to expel the trolling and rage from my positive thread
Counter-counter to expel blind fanboi-love for CCP:
- the node was "tripple reinforced" according to GMs - brackets, effects, blink on mail and other windows, sound etc. were all turned off - I didn't say "I have low FPS"... it's not my PCs fault if grid fails to load for over 30 mins
But you just continue to pretend everything is fine. I'm sure CCP will love you for it. Just never try to actually play the game or you'll suddenly find I'm right.

Our lords, who art in Iceland Hallowed be thy Game thy expansion come Thy design goals be done, on TQ and Sisi Expel these trolls from our forum Forgive our whines, as we forgive the trolls Lead us not into a shiny riskless WOW-in-space And deliver us from trolling For EVE is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen
Your rage is no match for my fanatic fanboyism

Facts to counter the trolling: 650+ in X-7o on Sunday night. The system was not reinforced. Lag was bad, but for someone who remembers how things were in 2007, more than manageable. I saw plenty of ships for a brief time before my lasers made them go away. After a while a CCP guy entered local to investigate, and there were actually brief episodes where the lag pretty much cleared, hinting that they have some ideas on fixing it's reappearance.

Nice blurb, but I die a little inside whenever someone says "EVE has no grinding!" Yes, skill training is passive, but how do you think most people earn ISK? _ |

I don't grind for ISK, nor have I ever. The only grind is the one you bring upon yourself.

Very nice review. I have a couple of friends who finally made the plunge, and they couldn't be more thrilled. Their excitement is extremely contagious, and is one of the reasons I recently resubbed.

QFT
Although personally the grinding required to get Corp and faction standings up, be it for refining, manufacturing, trading, research, etc, feels even more like grinding.
And EVE's above average travel time - for example having to do 25 jumps, especially if not AFK - is a no-skill time sink that is essentially a grind.
