There is a lot of longstanding contention about insurance. Is it a problem? Should it be changed? Should it be abolished? There are arguments being made for both sides. I think it's high time we found out what would actually happen if insurance were to disappear from Eve Online.
I propose that CCP create a one-week event where insurance contracts are unavailable. You can't sign up for insurance, and you can't redeem insurance when you blow up - and this would be the norm for about a week.
This way, everyone can know the truth about what is going on. Will carebears stop playing? Will 0.0 PVP grind to a halt? It will provide a tremendous amount of test data, and tell everyone what a world without insurance is like.
Thoughts?

The only thing that is wrong with the insurance system is that when Concorp pops your ship, you get insurance paid out. I think this is the only point that should change.
Solution: No insurance payout when Concorped.
Why: Insurance is placed on a ship to make sure you get some ISKĘs if something bad happens to your ship. Something like a unforeseen loss. And not when you use your own ship in reckless behaviour.

Why is it only wrong if Concord pops your ship?
Insurance, in my opinion, has no place in eve's modern economy. The Insurance System was created when the most a person could afford was a cruiser, NPCs had buy and sell orders for raw materials, and nobody had BPOs because they couldn't afford them. ISK was 10x as valuable then as it is now, and battleships cost 300 million ISK a pop from NPC sell orders.
Nowadays, you can buy ships and self destruct them for profit.
Do you see where I'm going with this? There are many ways in which I can argue that insurance is bad for the game, but the one thing lacking is empirical data. A week without it should provide that information.

The problem its that a 1 week event will not be representative of the impact of removal of insurance. People that rely on insurance to conduct their their business will probably do something else int this week, but in the event of a definitive removal(/reduction) of insurance they wold adapt thir technics to make their endevours viable again.
BTW: no matter how well we explain, the lemmings cannot understand most issues of insurance, only the 'it increase the situattion I can be screwed when I blindly put myself in risk'. _
I like to play this game because it make my in-game actions and archievments to mean something in-game. |

I totaly agree with removing insuracne paid for concord intervetion. For self-destruct - it is harder - yes, sometimes you can make profit from this, but sometimes players did this only for not faling to PVP jumper (jumping on defencless pilots/rokies).

I think if concord pops you, they should top up your insurance to 100% cause they feel real guilty about killing you.
