Edited by: Thomas Krypp on 25/12/2009 15:57:04 For the last 10 days I have been wondering which frigate I would like to pirate in the most. Currently the Kestrel is my favorite, but would like some advice before I start training for the kestrel.(Ive been training learning skills) Please help me decide on which T1 Frigate would be the best for a low sp character looking to learn and get into pvp. Thanks

From a Caldari standpoint, light missiles and a bit of speed works, or a blaster-merlin. I've heard good things about a plated-rocket kessie, but lulz.

Very nice bro! If you choose to stick it out and never fly another race, the caldari line of ships are worth it. The kestrel is not the best ship to start your pirating career with but i will try my best to give you insight on its uses...
You basicaly have 2 choices of setups for the kestrel! Rockets or Standard missiles! I have found success with the both fits and failer. IMO the best kestrel fit is the one i have innovated! Its basicaly a t1 version of the crow and should be flown as such and is good training for its t2 counterpart.
The basic strategy behind that fit is kiting and taking almost no damage from your main targets, which will be frigs and some destroyers.

Proxy's idea is great, but the setup is a bit pricey because of the Micro cap booster. Caldari have the least solo pvp ships, but I really really strongly recommend you to stick to whatever race you choose, because spending skill points left and right in unrelated skills is the best way to waste your skill points when you don't have a lot of them.
Anyway, the Merlin is an absolute beast and I think you should give it a try. Most Caldari pilots don't bother to train their Hybrid weapons skills, so they just ignore the Caldari Hybrid ships, but those ships are fantastic in small gangs and often for soloing, too (Merlin, Cormorant, Moa, Ferox, Rokh, Harpy, Harpy, Eagle and Vulture).

Well rifters always a good pick, and minmatar in general are a great race to train.
I'm a fan of the Incursus personally, drones and blasters are a nice playstyle, and options up ships like the thorax and vexor, arguably the best T1 pvp cruisers in the game.
I'd say;
Rifter Incursus Merlin Tristan

Caldari frigates arn't the best to solo with, what you have to do is rely on the fact that people will pretty much always engage you, For example, hostile taranis camping a nearby gate?
[Kestrel, vid] Ballistic Control System II Damage Control II
1MN Afterburner II J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket 'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket
Small Bay Loading Accelerator I Small Warhead Flare Catalyst I Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I
Keep at 7000m and grind him down.
But for starting pvp, i'd just invest the 12 odd days for small projectiles V and Minnie frigate IV, the Rifter is just tops for the investment.

Edited by: Dragonmede on 26/12/2009 07:58:42 I prefer the Kestrel myself for both PvP and PvE roles. The tactics which make it effective can take some getting use to but the benefits are worth it. For one, once you get the skills up and the tactics down it's an easy transition to the T2 Manticore SB's.

Proxyyyy's fit works with an ACR instead of the loading bay accelerator and a small cap injector.

OMG.
That's some serious EFT warrioring right there.
Dude, those modules are extremely rare and worth hundreds of millions (except the Catalyzed: 5M). Are you sure you want to put that on a f****** Kestrel?
