You also have to remember that a lot of people in lowsec are not 'Pirates'.. Shadow Cartel (my alliance) identify ourselves as 'PVP'ers, not pirates.. meaning we basically play for the kill
don't care who are you, where you're from, what you're doing or what you want.. if we can kill you, and you're not blue to us, we will.. simply for the fun of it.
it's not being a psychopath / maladjusted.. it's playing the game, in the region of space where that gameplay is allowed
now mind you we'd prefer if you were in a battlecruiser and put up a good fight, but we'll take the imicus kill and sometimes t1 frigs drop valuable look cuz people do stupid **** like transport plex and implants in them.
we don't generally ransom, as we would prefer to have the +1 on our killboard. |

David Toviyah wrote:I - not even a mere month in EVE - just got motherfucking podkilled for the first time by two assholes in low sec. I was traveling in an Imicus, minding my own business and merely jumping from one system to another when I was suddenly warp scrambled. I got into Local and plead for mercy but they attacked me anyway. I had no valuables on me, posed no threat and yet they murdered me.
Now, most of you will think GÇ£So what? Welcome to EVE.GÇ¥ and I would agree if not for the fact that I am ... or at least was roleplaying as a capsuleer who, similarly to Amarr royalty, refuses to use cloning technology. The financial loss and the subtracted skillpoints (I hadnGÇÖt upgraded my clone for aforementioned RPing reasons) are not what bothers me - they are minimal anyway. It is this devastating loss of purpose for this character. Right now I am considering destroying him and leaving EVE altogether because, fuck, this right here is a major joykill for me. Why are there malicious people like that?
tl;dr I need some serious cheering up lest I lose all my enjoyment of EVE :(
My god. We talk about people like this on these forums all day, but to actually SEE one. It's like I just spotted big foot lol.
In all seriousness. you were in LOW SEC and don't understand why (a game built around the concept of unfairness, cheating, unhappiness, conflict and MURDER) you got MURDERED? You just made yourself the poster boy for irresponsibility.
You see, as a player, it's your responsibility to know what the game you are playing is about. EVE isn't about role playing people who don't like clones (it ain't about role-playing at all, in the traditional sense, unless the roles are "perpetrator" and "victim lol). It's about man's inhumanity to man. If what happened to you upsets you, why did you choose EVE?
Welcome to EVE btw. |

Next time you go through lowsec either bring a combat ship so you can shoot back, or don't just mind your own business -- nano fit your ship for max speed and agility and stay alert, and get away before they can lock you.
And check your route on the map first for recent podkills.
That is what EVE is about is intel, intelligent planning, and taking chances knowing you could get blown up at any time.
And your RP scenario is dumb, such an Amarrian would not even become a capsuleer. You have to kill yourself to graduate from capsuleer school you know.
That is why it is a bit scandalous that Empress Jamyl turned out to be a capsuleer. |

For the third time now: I was not RPing as an Amarrian (reread the OP) but merely compared my characterGÇÖs stance on cloning to the one of Amarrian royalty.
Anyway, I think I have made my peace with this whole incident now. It might take me a few more days to get my motivation up but seeing how I apparently was a clone to begin with quitting because of this seems silly. Oh well, not everyone is a pacifist like me and since EVE allows (if not encourages) such behavior I should indeed not be surprised by it. Looks like it is to be expected to find such scum here. ItGÇÖs just that I simply did not realize how depraved the pirates and similar human dross in EVE actually are until now. Low lives gonna low life. |

Some people take this way too seriously.
They are no more scum than the enemy in a multiplayer battle of your generic FPS.
Because EVE is a game, one where killing your enemy (which may be everyone) is the intended goal. |

Unlike GÇ£in a multiplayer battle of your generic FPSGÇ¥* EVE allows you to play this game without ever killing someone and still be successful. Murdering other players is a decision that you make. No one forces you to do so. There are lots of alternatives. Trading, my profession of choice, is one of them. Justify it all you want but in my eyes this is just an asshole move. End of story.

2) Don't evade the profanity filter (though I don't think the word you tried to evade is even on the list).
3) if playing the game the way it is meant to, especially in that location, makes them an ass, then you need help. |

Oh by the way, if you were indeed "Role playing" as you say you are... Any self respecting Amarrian wouldn't be caught dead in a a piece of crap ship other than an Amarrian ship. So you fail at Role Playing. Do youself a favor, don't take it to such an extreme, and update your damn clone. You just wasted 30 days of training and $19.99. |

@OP If you want to play that way, then you should have been playing an Alpha (<900k skill point) character. Mine makes more money than my main in a month and never has to undock from station. All "pvp" is done in markets. And If I leave station and get podded, its usually in my rookie ship since its all he can fly well. |

Without the meaningful choice to be a villain, there's no meaningful choice to be a good guy. In most MMOs being "evil" means not much more than you get slightly cooler looking armour and maybe better offensive magic and worse healing or something.
In EVE, everyone looks the same and gets the same stuff and to be "Evil" you actually have to do evil things.
I prefer the EVE way. Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.
