Well apparantly they arent working on Half LIfe 3 for quite some time, they want a break to avoid "burnt out", understandable I suppose
They are gonna work on some smaller projects in the mean time, addons and such I suspect.
But if they are going to use an updated source engine, it seems likely that we wont have to wait quite as long got instalment number 3 (thank god/Mr Freeman/chaos theory - or whatever).

Yeah, I noticed we never got to see that weird water tentacle from the video previews.
They changed/cut alot more then that. They completely removed like 20 weapons, including an OICW, Uzi, futuristic AK-47 thingie, Ice Axe, ect. They also made what was originally going to be some sort of Incendiary Rifle into the main Assault rifle (Which is really cool). They ditched a ton of enemies too. I remember going through the models from the hacked E3 demo and seeing all SORTS of crazy **** that didn't make it into the game at all. Alot of biomechanical creatures, along with several of the old Xen aliens from HL1 (Including the Bullsquid).
Alot of people who played the hacked version are ****ed all this stuff was dropped ("WTF ONLY 5 OR 6 WEAPONS WHERES MY OICW?!!?!") but I think it was the right decision. I'm glad Valve is capable of looking at their game and being able to take out stuff that doesn't work well or isn't fun enough. I'd rather have 20 hours of continuous near-perfection then 30 hours of intermittant awesomeness diluted by stupid filler or repetative crap.

Amen to that. I have only managed to play for about half and hour or so (*grumbles* blasted real life) but what I have seen so far is very impressive. Nice work Valve.

The one game that wont touch my harddrive... since no-one has done it yet here comes the FLAME. Valve is trying to screw everyone over with their steam politics. Not only are they misleading everyone but it is false advertising. If I buy a standalone game it should be playable by me at home on my computer without ANY EXTRAS. Nowhere on the packaging does it say internet required to play the single player. Without STEAM yer in trouble. I honestly hope they shot themselves in the foot with this idea. This kind of thing really ticks me off. At least the people who have been misled here where I am living can return their software and get their money back for buying "damaged goods". STEAM SUCKS. Valve will NEVER get any money from me for steam implemented products. If I buy a game that is supposed to be online like the best one on the market, (EVE of course), I have no problems being connected to the internet for hours but not when I need over six hours for set up an account and download patchs (and they said the game was ready to be shipped, HAH, yes I work in the software industry so I know the market pressures but when they delay things for a SUPPOSED theft (which I never believed) they could have delayed it for a week for more testing.

It is Vivendi's fault, they made the packages. It is just like when EVE first came out and the publisher neglected to put on certain packages that an online fee was required.
Besides, what are you complaining about, you have an internet connection for a computer that can run EVE, so HL2 is no problem for you. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

my problem is they are lying about their product selling it as a standalone game when it is NOT. Hell even microsoft allows you to call a telephone rep to register. When they so blatantly try to hoop ream (thx TAT ) their customers they really arent worthy of my business and as such wont be getting it.

very nice review
my biggest worry was to be dispointed cus hl2 got kinda hyped at the end, but valve made a superb FPS, imo hl2 delivers what thay promised + alot more defo best FPS out there atm,
There is no such thing as innocence, only various degrees of guilt |

I loved most of HL2. My only personal gripes were...
The vehical sections (i.e. hovercraft and buggy) seemed to take too long and got a bit tiring after a while.
The ending for me was a real anitclimax. My expectations for where HL2 would go was based on HL one so once I got into the citdal I was getting really excited about finding some badass aliens to beat around but sadly it was just more of the same old troops right up until the end. Even the final part of the game was too easy and left me thinking...is that it??? I know there is going to be a third one but HL was felt no where near as large as the original and didn't feel "complete" enough.
That said I enjoyed the game alot, the grav gun was my favourite weapon by far but the poor ending (to me anyway) left me with a disappointed and slightly bitter feeling.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |
