It would be great if missiles would not use the 100% linear path to their target. They should 'swarm' a little bit. This way it would be much easier to see how many missiles are actually coming your way and you would not only see one big ball of light when several missiles have been fired at once. I think it would look much nicer.

well... it would be more data to process and may cause lag. also i don't think missiles do take a 100% straight path... i always notice them do a little side-winder at the end. if you want to see yourself firing more missiles... don't group your missile launchers. CCP introduced weapon grouping (and thus the ball of missile doom) to save us some klicks and: to reduce lag. I don't think showing more missiles again is the way to go.

This wouldn't cause "lag." People who wouldn't like this because their comp can't handle it or due to large fights probably have missile effects off anyway.
I want fancy paths and smoke trails!!!
Disclaimer: I'm the type of person who flies Amarr just for the colorful lasers. Missiles as they are just are not pretty enough :(

um... i'm not a scientist but i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to have an "smoke" trails in space. "I gets my salvage, I builds my rigs, I makes my moneys. Don't call me a ninja." |

smoke trails in space is fine even fire in space is fine. as long as there's something flammable, it can burn and spew smoke

Of course it should be a client side effect. The path in the server could still be linear, but the missiles should flight on a light curve. Smoke trails would add even more optical flavour I think - good idea. They already have trails, but they could be a little longer...

this goes in the same category as "missing" shots.
even if you do "0.0 damage" to your target the weapons still hits it's target. how cool would it be flying around dodging missiles and lasers (and the other usless weapons *duck*)
of course ALL would strictly be clientside effects and not affect connection lag what so ever.

... and for those who are wondering about the lag
ALL graphics are client side, it doesnt affect anything but your computer and as you all know, EVE isnt exactly heavyweight
its easy to do, even for a hobby programmer.. 5 mins work yet i suspect its going to take a while...
