Edited by: Gattman on 03/01/2010 07:12:05 Ok here I am walking around low sec looking for a decent moon for a POS mining operation. I find this, a Offline POS with only a couple of modules and a corp description that says: Shell corp, inactive. This POS has been sitting on a valuable moon and probably has not been touched for months. My proposal The ability to take over or claim an off-line POS. A POS that is not being fuelled or used for a purpose should be removable by those who want the moon. This could be allowed in high sec or could be restricted to low sec and 0.0
Options Code breaker style module that can claim an off-line POS (face it the thing has no power and no oxygen, someone has to save its crew)
Dialogue menu for claiming it, I.E. Right click, claim
Some other system that allows the current owner, (if he still plays eve) to contest and retain ownership if he refuels the tower.

Nice, I never fought of off lining a POS to safe fuel. The POS can be shot at and the modules can be taken.

One person can put up several of POS's and maintain them. But it takes -relatively- enormous effort to take down even offline small POS.
Maybe time to re-balance this game mechanic since sovereignity is not affected by POS's anymore.
What I'd like to see is ability to raid smaller towers even without battleships or capitals. This means they should be weaker (less recharcge on shield etc.) and guns shouldn't be so much overkill.
I also want to point out that small POS costs what maybe 100mil, it's less than HAC. Could we have a bit sense of risk/reward here.

If your in lowsec with any activity sure, go ahead. good way to lose those geddons. and probably longer then that. With 6 BS and 7 BC toke 1 1/2 hours.

If there's an offline POS in Low/Null... shoot it!
However, I do agree there is a lot of useless POS floating in High Sec.
I think there is an easier way to clear the skies, without having to capture POS.
Simply change the "rent" idea.
Currently, you have to burn Charters to keep the POS online. But an offline POS can float forever, tying up space the "landlords" could be otherwise using. So how about making POS burn Charters to remain anchored, whether online or not.
Or, get rid of the Charter idea entirely. It's rather useless anyway, given how readily available they are. How often do POS fail on account of Charters, compared to all the other required fuel?
So instead, tie High Sec POS rent into the same Office rent mechanic. You have to pay a monthly fee to maintain your "parking space". If you fail to pay the rent, then the POS is unanchored.
Either of these would result in unattended POS becoming unanchored. Then tie unanchored POS into the 30day deletion mechanic.
- The owner has 30 days to pay their rent and reestablish the POS. - Anyone and everyone has 30 days to find the POS floating, and scoop. - If no one does anything, then 30 days later the moon will be vacant. |

While I was in the CSM, we brought up issues like this all the time. Here is my solution - hope it works for you.

How about this: offline towers have no shield because of they lack the power to run them. POS bashing just got alot easier. Why do you want to report yourself as an ISK spammer? If you are one, just stop spamming already! |

i think pos's should just be unanchored after x amount of time of being offline. if its been there fore several months, the owners aint coming back. e.g. offline time 30 days - unanchor (and put into the recycling counter) - 'poof' its gone
