There are good and bad things assossiated with removing local.
In fleet fights neither side would be prepaired to fight until they scanned the systems completlly to find out if the opposition has a huge fleet waiting to gank them. Both sides will take it for granted that any neutrals that are in the system are with the enemy and say "not fighting those odds" and withdraw.
Solo pilots wont be able to opperate in 0.0 without friends watching the gate for enemys coming in and catching you with ya pants down while fighting NPC's
It would be a huge boost to pirates giving miners/npcers no chance what so ever
It would make sence to do it from an RP point of view in 0.0 altough you could say that if you come through a gate then the gate and hence local would know you just entered.
It would make things more interesting for the PvPers though |

If you can't see it on your scanner, then you shouldn't see it period. Using my imagination to cover the poor design of someone else is something I for one am tired of.
i totally agree with you, wish i knew the bigger picture or see it from a dev¦s perspective Respectfull Mermaid of Curse Alliance |

Its my pet peeve in EVE , that rhymes and you know it does
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

I do agree though that cloaked ships should not appear on local if cloaked
totally agree in this, good post..
im a pvper, i dont use agents or whatever.. i just fly around looking for targets, and dont see why i should use agents to find ma targets.
u cant lose local inempire, maybe 0.0, but not empire.. its also quite fun to chat in local.

sure there are some drawbacks if nerfing the local came to effect, still i visioned it somewhat like the normal extra channels that you are able to make or join, you simply close the window u leave the channel. You whont be seen, nor can you see others, or what they type for that matter, u simply have the choice.
once i was told this was a space simulator or whatever or suppose to act in a realistic way to some point chat channel really does not fit in that sense sure for a start it could be implented only in 0.0 space to search for feedback and results
communication is a huge part of the game i agree
once u jump into a system the local could be set to pop up each time... skeptical matter

Once again I add my vote: make local channel optional.
Showing everybody on local is totally unrealistic and obviously just there to protect ninja miners etc. I'm not a pirate but I think it is bogus that you can't scan the system but you can still magically tell who is there. _____________________________________________ I am motivated by various things, mostly ISK. |

OK i can see some good points for geting rid of local,BUT if you are at war/after just one corp to pirate how are you ment to know where your targets are? Its hard to track and keep up with ppl in empire as it is,Agent tracking time ect without Geting to the system after and haveing to spend even more time hunting bases/belts, And then haveing to do the same in every sorounding system to see where you targets gone

My personal opinion is that local should stay in Empire, it makes sense being there.
Look at it in a present day context. When a plane is flying, it must always stay in contact with a control tower (even if it is not landing at the towers air field). Without the towers and the communication, you would have thousands of objects in the sky, traveling at unknown speeds, in unknown directions. I dont know about you, but I would be a little reluctant to fly in these conditions. If an insane pilot in a DC11 is flying around "wing-flipping" passenger jets, you better believe someone is gonna warn others about it.
In Eve (IMO), the local channel represents this type of system. The "controllers" (NPC's that run the stations and gates) keep track of all traffic in the area, and send out warnings as appropriate.
Non-Empire space however, I agree, should not have this kind of system. It is supposed to be wilderness. Controllers simply wouldnt have the resources here.
So, my vote, keep local in Empire, trash it everywhere else.

Or at least have a delayed system, even 1 minute is long enough. When you jump into a system you don't show up in local for 1 minute. All people who have been in local more then 1 minute show up immediately.
Why?
Because I know somebody is in the system I'm about to jump into and I know they have me in their address book so my picture lights up with a glowing green dot before I even load in properly. The 1 minute delay will give me a chance (although small) of finding them before they insta dock or safespot and log off.
or
Pirates camping a gate, you can actually get into the system and warp to the gate in the minute you have and OMG surprise them (if they're dumb enough not of have alt scouts everywhere)instead of missing out cause they instadock or safespot and logoff as soon as your icons pop up in local.

Alot of the arguments for keeping local is proving that it's main use is as a tactical tool and not a social one (which is what it was meant to be originally from that I gather).
A simple delay would make things so much better for pirates and hunters as you finally get an element of suprise.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

impossible you cannot trust the [number] in local as CCP have not spent time in fixing that bug.
It's all about money. Bet they don't fix bugs unless it's profitable. |
