Hello All,
I am happily and successfully playing Eve Online through WINE on Ubuntu 9.10
The sound in game works fine.
However, I have one problem, when using Eve Voice, people can hear me fine BUT when they talk they come through all jittery and mumbled.
I have the ALSA driver ticked in WINE with hardware acceleration to full, sample rate 48000 and 16 bits per sample.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can resolve this?
Thanks,
Ridd ick |

I am having the exact same problem as you. Running EVE through wine on Ubuntu 9.10 and the in-game sound works great. The sound on EVE voice stutters horribly though, to the point where it takes some concentration to decipher what people are saying.
I am also using the ALSA driver at 48000 sample rate and 16 bits per sample, and changing these values seems to have had no impact on the sound quality. I have also tried the OSS driver which has an almost identical effect.

You might give this a try.

Then you will find a "pulse" driver in your winecfg-audio window. This should directly route the stream without trying to go through the underlying alsa interface.
You could also check if you have an .asoundrc file in your homedir, for some versions of alsa/pulse this is necessary, for some it just borks the soundoutput.

Im having the same problem on Ubuntu 9.10. I tried the guide in the post above now its even worse. Eve starts fine till I select a character then the sound stutters and the client locks up.

Mayb try starting wine/eve in a console and check for overflow errors regarding sound/alsa.

joining the group of those with stuttering sound.
Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
Everything else works fine. Altho my teamspeak volume of others is really really low, too.

Edited by: Dabljuh on 31/01/2010 18:45:55 I have the problem that people only hear stuttering from me, while I hear them fine through the ingame voice. The problem does not seem to be EVE specific, I have the same problem in HL:2.

Could this possibly be related to CPU usage? I know my eve takes up an entire core, so I imagine if eve voice has to run on the same core that might cause our problems.
