Quote: the character development system of Perpetuum is quite similar to other role-playing games, but there are some key details that need further explanation. Since your character's human form does not appear in the game, the only way to gain new abilities is to develop your digitalized, alternative ego (Spark). There are available softwares (=extensions) for all the activity types, each costing certain amount of '''extension points'''. The experience, or learning system of Perpetuum is time-based. That means, destroying enemies, or completing missions will not affect the amount of your available extension points. The flow rate is 1 extension point/minute for every account owner, regardless you log in and play, or not. Keep in mind, that it's not the character, who receives points, but your whole account! Let's say, you have 1000 extension points, and you spend 100 on your first character. You will have 900 points remaining for all of your characters. The extensions highlighted in yellow are those, which are received by the current decision (e.g. selecting your school). The grey ones are those, you already own. The number in the bracket after the extension means the current level out of the maximum 10.
emm interesting training system. Sounds little familier :)
Quote: In Pereptuum, every Character extension is connected to a primary and a secondary attribute. These attributes help you to install, and upgrade the related extensions faster. It is advised to set those attributes high, which help you to develop your preferred extensions and activities faster. Activities can be divided into 3 spheres of activities, each diverging into 2-2 attributes.
ok ccp you been making something secret or is this a blatent copy of eve but with mechs. and ive not even started playing yet :)

Game looks good so far but the story..wow..
"Earth ran out of fuel, world war 3, three new power blocks rise (america+canada/Eu+russia/Asia) almost peace is reached by them, experiments in orbital fusion, stuff goes wrong and blows up, tiny wormhole, tiny probes, life-bearing planet discovered, robotic lifeforms discovered that mirror us in many ways, "Hey, I bet we can like, take control of them or something", subvert many of them and virtually fight them with their own people..."
So...we find these aliens and before even making contact with them we decide to try and kill them all and using their own weaponry!
It's a little silly ______________________________________________

So their defense is "basically, we developed our complicated sci-fi game along ideals we really liked and it turned out that EVE did a lot of our stuff before we did."
To be honest it's a valid explanation.

I have to say I am very impressed with the Devs, They fast-tracked my beta application, privately walked me through starting the game and gave me personal tutorials on how to do things like combat and harvesting, very impressive.
Unfortunately I seem to have been struck with a bug and am unable to do any mining in the game, the Dev I was speaking to couldn't understand it but basically, before you can mine you must scan the ground for results, none of my results appear
Oh well. ______________________________________________

Many systems in Perpetuum are very similar to EVE's, the UI especially. The Devs seem pretty decent guys though (Having been speaking with them for a good part of the day now) and have stated that they never intentionally ripped EVE off, and while they have OBVIOUSLY been influenced by EVE I believe them. Our own devs here in EVE have said that they were influenced by Elite for example and how many games have systems identical to those of EQ? I'd go so far as to say MOST MMORPGs use EQ's design ideas. Still, it does feel odd when playing the game... ______________________________________________

I use drones, so I don't.
And Blane, EVE Combat is just F1 now with the key-locking, so EVE is one step ahead!

NBot quite. All weapons can be activated with one key press. Even if they are different kinds. Perpetuum 1, Eve 0.5! _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I can now scan fully! Hooray!
It wasn't a bug at all, I was just being a 'tard! (As per usual then tbh)
Also, seeing a lot of people from EVE there, it's pretty strange, the community and the game being so similar ______________________________________________

From all I've read about this game, I draw to one conclusion:
It can be a very well made effort to scam for EVE accounts.
I will wait until at least their company's website is up.

Perpetuum
If you change a few words you get this... Persistent universe Every player is a part of one server, one scene, one storyline.
Formable planet surface (Planetary interaction,SoonÖ) The whole terrain can be formed by military, agricultural or even aesthetic aspects. Dynamically changing vegetation
Time-based character development
No need for 'grinding'. You can be qualified despite you're not playing, since players get SP even if they are not logged in.
Active raw material simulation
The position of Asteroid materials change during exploitation. Controlled algorythms manage the respawn of raw materials.
Real-time, asynchronous combat No turns, only time restrictions on weapon activation.
A **** load more than 30 various ships, hundreds of equipment items ships can be specialized in several kind of operations or tactics. The only barrier is your imagination.
Self-controlling economy Exploitation, refinement and even manufacturing are all controlled by the players. The speed and efficiency of fabrication processes can be developed throughout the game.
Social networks A complex corporation founding and management system is available for players, soon with additional communication systems in- and outside the game.
Career centre Several missions can be undertaken from the numerous faction corporations. These varied missions provide isk for every sort of specialties.
Italics for every word I changed. Now what game does that sound like? |

Edited by: Sturmwolke on 11/01/2010 10:59:00 Background story and naming conventions from factions to units, items etc doesn't sound quite right. My impression is that some of them is outright corny (but I won't go into specifics).
Many games/MMO treat this as an afterthought, but imo, the quality ones make the effort to get the names & background right. The benefits are not immediately tangible, but make no mistake, people/player's perception and immersion can be a powerful factor towards it's popularity and survival.
If any of the Perpetuum devs is reading this, please take note. Check out how EVE names its stuff.

From Insanely Intelligentland, to find it you have to go to the east of eden, then left of centre, in through the out door, and finally up your own @rse.
Joking aside your right, there's a whole world of genius out there waiting to post on these forums.
