Is it that far fetched to run such a ship for L4 missions? Main reasons behind it is that i tried torpedoes and i can see that sometimes i wouldn't be able to hit high orbitters (EoM Death Lord comes to mind in Gone Berserk) and i would have to slug it to aggro high distance enemies (Worlds Collide comes to mind). You can call it commodity. I do not want a PERFECT golem build, but just wandering if this would work.
The fit would be:
4 x Cruise Missile Launcher T2
4 x Specific T2 Hardners
2 x Pith-B Small shield booster
1 x Target painter T2
3 x Caldari Navy BCU
1 x Dmg Control T2
I'm thinking of going rigor for the rigs, but i do not know the math behind it, so i'd be more then obliged if someone would recommend some to me (and I'll skim over to the other threads to find some info on this subject).
Again, feel free to diss the pure concept of the Cruise Golem, but it's just something that i want to try, as i like it (hate the long travel time for Torpedoes and the short range), even though i know full well it's not optimal.
Thank you for reading. :)

Edited by: Talio ZomB on 06/01/2010 10:25:48 the deat lords you can use Jav on.
for WC,
well my golem does 363m/s with Gist A 100mn. I lock the guristas at 100km+_ or so and aggro them, and fly to the serp crew, aggro them also at 100km +
my javs do aroudn 58km on t1 rigs.
by the time serp crew is dead the gurista are nearish.
2nd rooms are blitz with torp fit same for last room.
I think I am pulling WC and gone berserk off much much more rapidly than a cruise fit ever could.

I run a setup that is similiar to yours but with 4 bcu's 3 caldari navy invulns and a dg shield boost amp for rigs i run cap recharge rigs allows me to perma run both booster if needed or 1 booster plus tractor beam and salvagers.
I found this will insta pop all bc's and most cruisers leaving drones to pick off frigs

I enjoy this Golem fit the most. With a Zainou 'Deadeye'ZML1000 Standard torps hit at 42km with T1 riggs. With T2 riggs standard torps will hit at 45km. Javs will hit at 63km with T1 riggs and 68km with T2 riggs. Cap will last about 8min with every thing running and just about 14 min with the salvage gear off.
The volley for T1 torps is 6848 with 931 DPS with out drones. T2 volley is 6163 and 831 DPS with javs. Add some damage implants and you should be a happy camper 2 volleying BS and instapoping cruisers and BC.
Enjoy

The Cruise Golem is not as far fetched as people would have you believe. Depending on the mission, it can perform either significantly better (due to the painter bonus) or a bit over 17% worse than a CNR (due to the CNR's ROF bonus and extra Bouncer II). I was even noticing that it can instapop certain cruisers with fury when they're on approach - which can save you some time on a mission too.

NPC's that like to spit out 2-3 defender missiles will really hurt a cruise golem. If the NPC pops out 2 missiles or more the CNR is better.
Cruise missles could do with a small boost to their HP, but that is "balence" for you.

Thank you for your informative replies. I spent more time researching a bit and playing with EFT and actually switching rigs, and the current fit is:
4 x Caldari Navy Cruise Missile Launchers
4 x Specific T2 Hardners
2 x Pith-B Small shield booster
1 x Target painter T2
4 x Caldari Navy BCU
2 x Rigor rigs
I have to say that i am impressed. It 2 voleys non-elite cruisers (at least the ones i encountered untill now: Angels and Sansha's mostly) and battlecruisers and does fine versus BS.
The reason is switched from T2 to CN is the fact that EFT shows a decrease of DPS if i use T2 launchers with T1 ammo. Thinking hard at some of Liang's posts made me realise the majority of the time i waste in missions is killing the small ships, not the big BS's, so this fit is probably best for optimizing against that problem.

What implants do you have as i have T2 rigs and full torp impants and i can only get Javs to 61kms

Having used both Torps and Cruise with the Golem (with spec V on both), I personally prefer Cruise for PVE mainly because I dont have to burn out to enemies 50-100km out with torps.
The damage is def enough to finish missions quickly enough as well. 500+ dps without drones, 4500 or so raw alpha with T1 missiles.
Yes torps give way more dps with a painter etc, I dont know about you but I get sick of engaging a painter on every single rat over and over and over.
Just my 2 cents. Obviously people will/may run missions diff from me, but I am more than comfortable with the above.

Why waste money on a Golem if you're not gonna use its tractor benefits?
Golems are for Torps, CNR is for Cruises

Why waste time waiting until cruisers and battlecruisers are within 40km when you have no intention of looting/salvaging them?
