Hey all,
I am going to be able to sit in a Viator soon and was wondering this. In low-sec gate camp running, is insane agility a necessity? Sure in 0.0 you try to burn out of the bubbles in fear of cepters decloaking you, but Low-Sec is a different story I suppose.
Anyway, my question: for low-sec cargo running, how would one fit a Viator? speed/agility, or more cargo space because no fear of bubbles?
Any fits and help are appreciated.

There is a third option - wcs.
I have flown a viator quite a bit (and not lost one yet) and would suggest the following:
Rigs - cargo Highs - covert ops (duh) Mids - MWD (duh) Lows - be flexible. If you don't need the space use a combo of agility a wcs depending on what you think you will go against. Of course if you get everything right every time just use cargo expanders - you should be invulnerable in low sec. However to cater for that finger trouble / lag then fit wcs if you will meet small groups / solos or all agility if bigger groups.
Tbh I am sure you will get different opinions but some of it is just personal preference. |

Warp-core stabs don't help, it will only take one Hic to totally negate that.
It depends a bit on how good you are with running trough lowsec/0.0.
If you are good at it just go for hauling capacity, make sure to avoid really big camps and youll be fine.
If these are your first runs, you can go the safe way and fit for more agi/speed untill you feel safe with your own skills.
The cloak makes you so hard to catch, that if you do it right, the only way to catch you is decloaking, but the only ones that can do that are mwd frigs. I have never seen a group of gatecampers in low-sec get in a frigatehull just for decloaking.

Well I guess I could have explained it better - as I said (and you did), if you get everything right you don't need wcs, but if you get unlucky against a fast locking inty (lag etc) then agility rigs won't save you but a couple of wcs will. Obviously HIC bubbles aren't an issue but the infini-point will totally negate the WCS and agility would be better. But in my experience you meet more small, fast locking ships in low sec than HICs. |

If flown correctly, and assuming lag doesn't latch on, the only time you should have problems in a viator in lowsec is while undocking. If you get a gate camp, you just click on what you want to warp to, hit warp, and cloak. They would have to be extremely lucky to decloak you before you jet away.
To answer your question, unless you're going to be hauling more than 4000m3, you should fit for agility. My usual low slot layout is WCS and 2x Inertia stab (with 2x cargo rigs). The WCS isn't really necessary but I like to have it just in case.

Main dangers to watch out for in low sec:
1) smartbombing BSes when approaching gates (you get 30 secs DCII, 10secs Invul II when warping cloaked) 2) fast locking HICs with infinite scramble (only if you FU) 3) fast locking ships at low-sec station exits that can withstand station guns and alpha you in a few volley. (create an exit BM)

Lowsec: Go all cargo. This is what I did with my Crane (T2 cargo rigged). I swap in local istabs (less sig radius bloom than T2 istabs, but same bonus) when I don't need all the cargo.
Nulsec: Go for speed and agility.

Cargo, the reason is it has a cov ops cloak. The cov ops cloak is your defense. In a year of pirating, I've only caught 2 cov ops cloak equipped haulers. Both were at a station, not a gate. One was afk at the station and the other was amazingly stupid. Attentive and remotely competent players can run anything with a cov ops cloak through low sec with near impunity. I often fit mine with nano's for added speed and agility but that's for faster travel times when I don't need the cargo capacity. It has nothing to do with running gate camps. -----------------------------------------------------

It's said and I'll say it too... Cargo... it's a covert-ops ship. hard to scram what is not there. in low sec, you dont have to worry about interceptors locking you before you cloak because of sentry guns. and even if you did, agility vs a ceptor would not help you.

If you know how to get out of a camp using your MWD and covert ops cloak intelligently, you are invincible in lowsec, so fit for cargo. Just be careful when you undock and remember that you can't be targeted for 30 seconds as long as you don't react, so dont do anything during 30 seconds and then redock.

For lowsec: Cargo (your cloak does enough) For 0.0 red space: agility (bubbles, gatecamps, etc.) For 0.0 blue space: Cargo (cloak again does enough, intel prevents most gatecamps/bubbles)
And it suits me fine :)

there are quite simple ways to kill BR's, and believe me when I say that the easiest BR kills in 0.0 are the ones that aren't agility-fitted.
as for low-sec, I still fit for agility with cargo expander rigs, but that's me.
it is possible to catch a BR in low-sec with a HIC and remote SB'ing, but it requires quite a large amount of luck. Amount that is the inverse proportion to the number of cargo expanders you have fitted. ---

I'm not sure I can imagine a situation in lowsec where agility/MWD/wcs would save you and a covops cloak wouldn't. I'd rather use those mids for a light shield tank to protect against smartbombers.
