What eve really needs is to open up the UI development for customization, the best part of WoW is that you can customize your ui with an endless assortment of mods.

They *want* small (but non-threatening) competitors in their genre to make themselves look big and successful in comparison. Also there is the chance that they come up with a good ideas that can be adopted - instead of paying your own to come up with it and best of all having it tried out on another companies customers without the risk of backfire if they did it themselves.

So so so true.

Nope. Dust is the action oriented planetary interaction for eve that will be released on consoles. If I am getting the gist of what the devs have hinted at for eves planetary interation it will look something similar to this. They don't call eve spreadsheet online for nothing you know..

What an idiot would copy one of the worst modern game UIs in existance?
No need to sue them, the UI itself is punishment enough.

Good job we could never accuse CCP of having ship designs that bear more than a passing resemblence to ships from a certain George Lucas franchise.

I'm pretty sure the UI in eve is likely the way it is because so much of it is SQL driven. It's essentially like a little webpage being shown in your game, so there is limited ways it can be displayed.
Any other game that uses the same kind of system will also have similar UI's.

Did you just say that any game with a database will have to use Eve's gui?.. quality posting.

Not Eve Online. Wait, what?
Honestly, I'm inclined to think that Perpetuum either licensed or ripped off CCP's game engine. Looking at the graphics, I have a hard time believing that they're NOT using the Trinity engine. It's just too similar.

Hopefully they'll actually respond to people who have problems with gameplay mechanics and technical issues rather than just blow them off to help the mission farmers.
We might be pirates CCP, but we're also part of your playerbase and supposedly a big part of what Eve is all about (PVP, pirating, etc).

Anyone looking at the screenshots can tell the game is a total rip off from EvE. Well Guess what? EvE didnt just appear out of nowhere. Its a total rip off.
@the guy saying its a ripoff cos he saw the word "Arbalest": I have news for you. EvE ripped off that word. That word has been there since like the medieval times. It was a name given to a sort of a medieval missile launcher. And EvE ripped off its UI from Windows who from someone else and so on... The ship names, module names, skill names etc all ripped off from real life words/systems.
So stop whining and go play the game.
I for one am glad someone is taking EvE and doing something with it, for better or worse. Because I find all other MMOs(except EvE) boring. So it will be interesting to see where this game goes.

It's in production, but they've decided to start over. So it'll actually be "Mechwarrior: Reloaded" or something like that. Anyways, it'll be the first game with better graphics. There's a gameplay video out there somewhere, looks like you could die just by watching it.

Screw Mech Warrior. Where's my Shadowrun!? (And no, that abortion of a shooter doesn't count – it had somewhere between ****-all and zero to do with the IP). ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

It is essentially a ground up clone of Eve; visual effects are also identical (salvaging, energy neut, weapon effects).
Either CCP licenced their engine (pretty much every developer seems to do this), or is getting ready to lay the litigation ban-hammer to them.

It looks to me like they are using the same game engine. There is no reason that CCP couldn't have licensed their engine to them. It only means good things for CCP, if that's the case. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00
