Blizzard uses racks of PS3's to power their game? I thought the PS3 was released after WoW.

And how many can fit on a single grid before the server explodes or the node dies? Bliz also hosts more than 50k players per battlegroup, which is about the equivalent of an EVE node afaik. I don't see much lag in a 120v120 fight in WoW, usually (it starts to get bad after a couple hundred on each side though). But god only knows the amount of money Bliz actually has to spend on servers.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

Pretty sure ccp's server hardware is best available. Unless im mistaken it's the most advanced mmo server cluster in the world.
MySQL databases going **** up is microsoft's fault, not ccp's.
But since your just trolling anyway im sure you don't care. Kazang

Heck, stuff as many players are in your average 0.0 lagfest into a capital city fight in WoW and I bet their servers would handle it far, far worse _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

Edited by: Zartanic on 11/01/2010 05:36:16 WOW has a totally different server system as it is split over many realms. Also thy shut down areas of the game and 'instance not available come back later sucker' is common especially when they have new content. The cross server battlegrounds took months and months to fix. World PVP is discouraged (by over zealous guards) as any more than a few each side and its a lag fest.
The fact is our expectations are too far ahead of current technology. Money does not solve everything.
If you want it better you will have to restrict ship numbers to about 100 and have instancing.

well, the largest number i've ever seen on grid was when bob was still bob, and that was about 400 each side i'd say. And the game was still very playable.

1. What does that have to do with EVE? 2. Are you suggesting that MS is hacking into MySQL servers around the world and nuking them, or are you suggesting that they've infiltrated MySQL and fed them buggy code? ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

You could have the best servers in the world, if your software is faulty they won't run properly. Dominion screwed something up, as before the patch large fleet fights were playable (and lag generally was much less). I'm sure they'll get it fixed soon though.
Originally by: Allisie In a recent interview, a dev mentioned that ships and skills cause lag and will be removed in EVE 2.

Confirming, WoW's open-space, non-instanced battleground had to be limited to 240 players at once to prevent the server from entering into a reboot cycle. |

god thses thread are realy stupid go learn about networking and you would soon understand that the amount of conections that eve has to its servers is proberly unmached.
and yes soft wear is part of the procses and its codeing can help or hinder the procese but when systems have 700+ conections established and then another 700 jumpin/conect to it its going to stree any hardware even more so when the eve server run more than one system

I'll take the beeb's - atleast they came without the MS tax and you could do some pretty (for those days) good stuff with them, and they gave alot of people in the UK a good start into computers....

Well whatever brand of database they are using it still doesn't change the fact that the devs have stated it is randomly messing up eve and they don't know why. FFS you guys go all nerdrage over the smallest confusion of a name. mysql, m$sql whothefukcaressql..
