Hi, could somone explain to me how bombs work? I know that they aint like missiles where you lock a target and fire them. Im lead to belive that they go from a straight line from your ship and distance depends on you ships speed and flight time of the bomb itself? If someone could explain this, maybe run a few number past me it'd be apppreciated, cheers

Ship speed is irrelevant, but yes, it goes in a straight line forward. Speed and flight time is determined by the bomb. Parrots, commence!

Bombs go in the direction the bomber is facing. That is, you usually align towards whatever you're trying to bomb. Bombs travel at 3km/s, and they travel 10 seconds before exploding, so they travel 30km. Their area of effect is 15km from the point where they explode. Their explosion radius (different from their area of effect) is 400m. That means that anything with a signature radius smaller than 400m takes reduced damage.
And the velocity of your bomber doesn't matter, only the facing, but aligning/approaching helps to make sure you are facing correctly Please pardon the prissy overtones that will be found throughout this letter, but the reservoir from which CCP draws its lickspittles is primarily the masses of revolting enemies of the people. In the sense that they TRAVEL 30k before they explode, once they explode their DAMAGE is applied within a 7.5k RADIUS of the bomb, if im not mistaken..

Don't use them against any frigs/destroyers. With only a DCU on my catalyst looses about 1/4 of its armor in a blast with no shields up.
Definately for ganking bigger ships.
If you have a buddy or two, launch EMP, wait 4 seconds, launch Explosive, wait 4 seconds, Launch whatever to kill... YOu can very quickly drop just about any cruiser this way.
Hell, even just launching EMP bombs against PVP'ers is typically a win situation, considering resists.... |

You are mistaken. They have a 15km radius. They will hit targets between 15 and 45km away.

actually a realistic value is arround 10 and 40, since bombs, like missiles, need to accelerate when they leave the launcher, meaning that they have a range UP TO 30km, and not 30km. ---
