p.s. good job on allowing Goons to exploit in 49-U6U tonight, 4 hours of my life wasted (again)!
Yes, if only EVE were bug free, like such MMOs as
I see what you did there, and I love it. ---

Yes but this reward is from mmorpg.com...
Not the most reputable company for which to receive an award from is it, really? I mean, I could give you an award if you like, would you be proud of it?.. no.
I know CCP have been in cahoots with mmorpg.com for many years, giving them exclusives all the time etc so to say your proud of this achievement is a bit self serving.
I really dont see what the big fuss is about, nearly all of my gaming social acquaintances dont hold the site in very high esteeem, so the real question must be, why does CCP ?
I do genuinely believe that Eve is the game of the year. But coming from mmorpg.com is kinda like your mum saying your her favorite son when your an only child.

Bravo Zulu CCP.
I think for the few bitter trolls, if you could step away from Hello Kitty Online comparisons and your own personal beefs with the game you might see how incredible and unique EVE is to the MMORPG world.
What is even more amazing is their relationship with the player base. Any other gaming company would of nerfed the hell out of Hulkagedon after Hulkagedon I and then added Jedi and a row of buttons along the bottom of the UI with colorful icons representing your different moves.
From gambling in "walking in stations" to Dust, their innovation cotinues. That is why they won.

Just for the record, I'd rate Warhammer's PVP combat is much more *fun* than Eve's - and furthermore it's easy (and expected) for everyone to be able to advance in game purely by PVP. You're very literally able to log in and PVP from the time you log in to the time you log out... and all you need is 15-20 minutes to find a nice balanced fight.
It almost makes me want to allow an "Eve Arena" complete with betting and such when Incarna hits - all the Arena bull**** that I can stand without risking/losing 50 hours of work. I mean, in Warhammer you aren't risking a ton of time when you PVP in a full set of blue/purples - and it goes a long way to make sure that people *actually* PVP.
But... such a thing would quite likely kill the *actual* PVP in Eve. As much fun as it is to mindlessly PVP, Eve is really about more than that. Eve is about the total player interaction - from market PVP to ship PVP to alliance PVP. It's about so much more than simple combat.

As an old gammer who's been PVP'ing since pong I'd have to say that T1 and 2 warhammer is probably the the most fun I've ever had in a pvp game. T3 had its moments but started to get into the heal/CC spamfest that killed t4 for me. This games "PVP" (100% gank/grief) has quickly lost all interest for me due to a total lack of challenge. Not saying that the pvp in this game is bad just that its not my cup of tea. I understand why my friends in the big 0.0 alliances love this game but it takes a certain level of codependency that I am lacking to be able to enjoy that aspect. If they just introduced something as simple as a 10 v 10 frig arena that's where almost all my money and time would be spent.

I'm not kidding you.
If you look at the core game mechanics (and that's all I'm looking at from the objective perspective of a game designer) and ignore the puzzles and the cartoony pirates, then fundamentally, Puzzle Pirates is equally if not more hardcore than EVE, is certainly much more player-driven, and just has much more polished core gameplay.
If PP had shiny graphics, would have replaced the puzzles with mechanics aimed at a higher age group, and was put in a dark sci-fi setting, then I'm sure that most EVE players would have preferred to play PP instead, as it basically has everything EVE has and more, except for the setting and target audience.
Oh and the whining about single server, PP has a small handful of servers, which due to player world shaping have grown so much apart that they are now almost different games alltogether. At least the differences are much more significant than there is between Tranquility and the Asian EVE servers.
You're kidding me, next thing you will say is that Runescape has better graphics and boasts a more mature playerbase than EvE.
And to think you were on the CSM... If EvE is so lacking in the areas that you value so much why you still playing? Puzzle pirates is obviously a better fit from your descriptions.
For all its faults I am genuinely happy with EvE and I anticipate many more fun years to come. I'm sure many others will agree with me.
btw grats CCP PRAISE THE SCOTTISH FOLD!!

I completely agree with your sentiments about WAR. They nailed how to do a PVP game 100% in Tiers 1 and 2. I found Tier 3 still pretty fun, and Tier 4 was .... not. At least, not when I left. IMO, the biggest failure in Warhammer was their inability to connect people together in corps. Err, guilds.
At any rate, as for Eve, I'd have to say that a fight in Eve is largely decided before entering the battlefield, and really half of the "PVP" in Eve consists of gathering intel and showing the enemy only what you want them to see - for every fight that you get in, you might spend hours preparing for it. I guess I'm trying to say that in Eve, strategy far, far outweighs tactics.
And that's really what the key difference is - in Warhammer, there was essentially no strategy. Sure, you could feint over at this keep and then bring your forces to bear over here, but that was really about as strategic as it got. Which, of course, brings us back to what I said earlier... the actual combat in Warhammer was a *lot* more fun. But Eve is about so much more than mere combat. :)

IMO EVE won largely because it's one of the few MMOs that actually are Massively Multiplayer, rather than massively singleplayer.
CCP's adherence at all costs to the single shard, no instancing model is what has made this game what it is, and is the reason why it keeps winning these awards.
