So I fairly recently resubbed this character, to find out that he's just a few short days training away from driving a Protheus. Unfortunately, that's not a particularly good ship, as I understand it. But looking around for some info I noticed that people say things about T3's like "legion is not a bad ship but it's the worst cloaky sneaker*" and it got me wondering where the strengths of these ships lie.
So my question(s); what are the 'best use' options for the strategic cruisers? Do they all have a different preferred use? Are some rubbish at everything? Thanks in advance for insights :)
*I just jotted that down as an example. It's not a point of discussion, mkay? _______________________________________________

Now I'm not some fancy city lawyer, but ^^
Yeah, basically, legion is not significantly better at anything other amarr boats can do anyway tbh, since it doesn't seem to get the really good bonusses/subsystem combos.
Proteus is the only one that can really use drones and is a very decent (if short range) RR boat with those drones as dmg. Ow and it can dish out a decent amount of dps although blasters are blasters..
Loki.. dunno this ship too well, I hear a lot of people are using it as a gang platform, guess it does really shine as that.
Tengu seems to follow the caldari way, excellent in pve and its possibility to hit while still having a huge tank seems to be popular enough to field in pvp aswell (seen many T3 used in pvp so far, only one legion though, mostly tengu and loki, with a couple proteus thrown in for good measure).
A lot of the strength lies in the many possibilities they give while still being nimble, fast and cruiser sized.
All the above is prolly crap Drone Guide

Proteus is, to my experience, the most common t3 ship in PvP. The drone subsystem on it is kinda meh though due to the 75 bandwidth. It'd be used a lot more if it was 125.

If you have a play with the legion subs in EFT you'll soon notice that a cloaky fit does not have a lot of turrets or DPS.
Most of the combat fits you see around have the "Lots of HP" defensive sub and the "lots of PG" engineering and "More turrets" offensive subs.
The only thing that really makes these configs stand out vs. any other amarr laser boat is that they have a lot of HP for a cruiser sized hull (BS levels pretty much). It also lacks a drone bay.
The recon-ey subs I dunno. You can do a sort of combi-laser-boat/non-cloaky pilgrim. It's not especially inspiring though and I am a bit at a loss as to how to make a good fit with it.
PVE fits, I dunno. I'd just use a battleship or a CS.
So yeah, for the most part the legion is obsoleted by all the good T2 ships amarr have.
I think both the Proteus and Loki work out as better cloakers too.

The thing is, the t3 ships are unique if you fit the covert subsystem, because you have a ship that can probe, warp cloaked, fit an awesome tank, and reasonable gank, all in one package. Nothing else can do that.
If you don't go cloaky, I think there is not enough to differentiate t3 from other choices. It's just a HAC with maybe 30% extra gank and tank, at triple the price.
When you fit the covert ops subsystems, the proteus and tengu are awesome in PVP. The Loki is kinda underwhelming, but it works . The Legion however, is really weak, and offers very little extra capability in exchange for the big pricetag. It's like a pilgrim with no drones and crappy lazors. |
