Why would you remove it? I just got a TrackIR partly because EvE Online was in the list of enhanced games, but after looking all over for the option I remember used to be there, not finding it, wondering CCP moved it somewhere, looking on the forums only to find it has been removed..... Very aggravating to say the least....
All things aside, why would you remove support? If it was working before, all you had to do was not touch it. It wouldn't require frequent updates or massive bug testing like enabling the Linux client. As far as I know, the TrackIR DLL needed to get it to work just lets the TrackIR software know where your head is in game, and passes back what changes to the game.
Even if you disabled it because in your opinion few people were using it, it is important to remember that just like the amount of people joining eve over the years, it starts out small, but if you make a good product, it wont stay that way. More people are finding out about TrackIR and getting one all the time.

I actually considered getting TrackIR till Eve removed support.
Originally by: CCP Oveur The client handles no logic, it is simply a dumb terminal.

Propably because it required work and the number of people using it were small and were not increasing. I understand it sucks for you, but there aren't enough people even using the medium shader to warrant continuing support for it, so it easy to see how a gadget like trackIR propably doesn't warrant support either. I didn't even know what it was before I saw the news of its removal, so it can't be that popular.

It was removed because the cost of supporting it was too high considering the very few people that actually used it. ---------------- A million faces, each a million lies |

The number of times I wished what my eyes were looking at had focus on the computer. Especially eve when differentiating between different chat windows...
Now I know it was there, it isn't anymore. :(

Track IR is an indispensable peripheral device for a lot of games. EVE isn't one of them.
Support for it will not be missed by most.
And TBH I don't know why it was included in the first place.

Agreed. Flight simulators? Definitely. But this isn't one, and field of view is not necessary. In fact, I imagine the game could be played with little loss of functionality in a purely text mode.

This thread looks familiar for some reason.
But anyway, yeah, I had no idea the game supported it or I would have added 1 more to the # of users of the feature. It would be huge if they ever implemented first person/joystick mode in conjunction with it.

Locking thread as it would be better served in the Features and Ideas Discussion forum.
