Well done, but i think i outdo you....... i went str8 for my salvager...put one on an ibis and went down to pr-8ca. full of ruskies and goons. I set my clone to the station and began to loot and salvage the belts , without permission. After 2 or three trips i could pay for 50 salvagers and now depended on nobody except me. i shipped these around to different blood raider stations. if i died i just popped back out and if i died a lot i just changed the system. Eventualy they get sick of sullying their great pvp record with ibis kills and leave you alone, pretty much. I was pulling in 50- 90 m a day...with just my salvage skill, salvager, and an ibis. An when you get bored you can go and try to salvage those player wrecks beside the gates.......what have you got to lose...an ibis? Apart from the isk i made, i also gained valuable pvp experience, death is a great teacher. It was great fun.

Posting with Alt. here in line with OP.Im in same Alliance(not a "Renter" btw). All true-and the lad for sure did not spend all of his time Carebearing it up-from day 1 he was out in an Atron or Imicus on Roams with Combat Teams as a tackler.

Ok, let me get this straight, for having no previous knowledge of eve, you got a trial account and conquered it in a few weeks even with the steep learning curve? Seriously, if your that smart, you shouldn't be wasting time in Eve. The way you explain things equates to quite a bit of experience. I played Warcraft for 5 years. It's like me saying, "Hey guys, I got to level 80 on my trial account in the first two weeks, I'm now in a hardcore raiding guild that's running end-game content and I have 100,000 gold in my bank.", somehow, it just doesn't add up.

Good thread. New players need to hear things like this so as to avoid grinding missions in high sec for the first 6 months, getting bored, and quitting EVE.
Congrats on jumping in, making some friends, and not doing it wrong! |

Eve is not THAT complicated. 90% of the people complaining about how hard EVE is started the game, canceled the tutorials and started whining in the help/starter corp chanel about how hard everything is. They don't listen to when people give advice because they want to run 1 pulse laser, a rail gun, a blaster and a smart bomb on their rifter because that 'allows them to deal with what ever they come across. They don't read guides, forums or do any type of research because 'it feels like homework'. They are victims of their own lazy/antisocial/closed minded attitudes.
If you're willing to do a bit of reading, take the advice of veteran players, and gtfo of the NPC corps so you can learn from good players success and profit are easy to come by in EVE. That's the glory of this game, you don't have to 'grind' your way to level 80. You can jump in and play from day 1, but you have to be ambitious and ready to learn to make it happen. |

Excellent work OP.
Originally by: Regat Kozovv Noobie of the year award to OP.
This is utterly fantastic. Way to have a good time and take best advantage of your early days.
tl;dr for everyone else:
1. Make friends. Join an established corp and see the galaxy. 2. Fly cheap ships and don't be afraid to lose them. OP got popped a ton of times and is still on top.
I am a new player and I am doing it solo in low sec; I want in on the new player of the year competition. I flew out to low sec at about month 3 when I needed a research slot. I decided to stay and made my own corp. I am currently making allies in other corps and alliances, setting a few corps and alliances red so I do not have to check their info before aligning and scanning. Currently I am thinking about dropping my corp and joining an established group.
Granted, my brother-in-law explained much of the game to me before I started and I know how to read, so I guess it has been a bit easier then the average person finding this game, downloading, and starting with no research.
I do not have a billion isk in my wallet, but I have all that I need at this point, can build my own ships and rigs, and I have about 2 hundred million in faction drops in my hanger.
I want in on the running for new player of the year.

I hate people that are so envious. All the people that posted here that the OP made money with somebody's help really need to develop social skills. Eve is all about social interaction. I have only one thing to say to the op: Congrats. Enjoy eve and have fun in it! Eve needs more people like you.

Edited by: Mendolus on 22/01/2010 18:16:24 I am more than amused at some of the posters balking at the fact that a corporation actually pointed a new player in the right direction to becoming self-sufficient and encouraged them to dive headlong into the richest content of the game, null, within weeks of subscribing to it, suggesting that we somehow let him leech off the fruit of our labors.
We have been doing this ^, teaching players to stand on their own two feet, for more than a year now, and while we may not be the biggest corporation out there, nor the most successful, our members enjoy freedoms that we work hard to provide for them. It does not cost us a dime to make new friends this way.
When I first started this game a month or so after Trinity, I was warned, watch out for player corporations, they like to recruit rookies just like you and use them as slave labor because rookies do not know any better. It reminds me of a fiefdom and relationship between lord and serf.
As long as da pesantz dunt lurn to reed m'lord, we will not haft to burninatez them! Burninates them anyways, just to be sure, and take of their womenfolk!
Bottom line for me is, everyone profits and gets the most entertainment out of the game, when they are given a fighting chance to land on their feet running. Omal was told, come out to 0.0, all you need is a tractor beam and a salvager, once you get your bearings, the game is your oyster. And that's just what he did.

It's also a good, positive way to instill loyalty and enthusiasm.
Decent leadership counts for something also . Now you'll have to control all the people who are banging down the door who want to see the universe. It's a volatile can of worms you've opened. ________________________________________________ <--- My in-game me. |

Is it me or is anyone else wondering what 0.0 corp recruits trials or low sp players? Not to cast doubt but it just doesn't seem that common from reading forums or recruitment posts.

edit: amplifying this, I know what corp specifically. It's more how common is it to actually get in as a trial or low sp to an 0.0 corp considering the spying, metagaming, and general needs of most of them.
The interview process is important.

Generally speaking, the larger the nullsec corp, the more it has at risk from alt-spies, and the more stringent the recommendation/recruitment process. An effective alt-spy can, and has, completely jeopardised a 100-BS strong RR fleet by accurate reporting of the fleet's make-up, destination and ETA.. In nullsec, intel is everything.

Yep yep, reading and taking peoples advice now means you are a vet that knows how to do everything. I basically did this, but it took me 3 months because I did not read the forums, and did not get recruited to a corp until my 2nd month or so. I was in 0.0 less the a month later doing what the OP does. So if someone has experience with internet gaming and reads the forums heavily from day 1 there is nothing hard about what he did.

I joined up with a corp that, then got recruited into The Brotherhood of the Spider, which had sovereignty around 9UY area. I then got my first pvp against my current alliance at less then 3 months and 4 million SP's. This could have happened faster if I had done it right.

Getting a new player to salvage for you is a great idea. However finding a new player willing to do this who is not a complete tard is rather difficult.
