This happened 2 days ago and i find it all very wierd. I was playing Sunday morning to the afternoon and logged out to go to a party and when i tried to log in on Monday morning it stated my account did not exist. So i logged in to my 2nd account which im training for mining and hauling and i see myself logged in.
Now if someone was on my acc, why would it say it did not exist when trying to log into it. This is what i dont understand. Then later on Monday afternoon when i tried to login it stated i was banned due to account compromise.
Now ive not recieved any emails back regarding this and i have sent 2 petitions. 1 On Monday morning and another on Monday afternoon after i saw the ban.
Both have yet to be responded to.
Now what am i to do. I havent done anything wrong, never shared my acc info, or bought ISK online and as a matter of fact ive never logged in from a different computer then whats in my room.
I really do wish a GM could look into this so i can play again. How many days will i need to wait for a response let alone to get this issue resolved.

Well seeing as this is happening alot, it might take awhile. Don't send in more petitions. All that does is clog up the petition system and slows it down even more. It can take up to a week for you to get answered sometimes. If the account is said to have been compromised then they are probably already looking into it.

The reason why its banned due to compromise is most likely because CCP are currently investigating the situation. You usually can know more by sending the GM team a email or something asking about the situation. I dont think you have to place any petitions. Just write em a letter and hear what they tell you. And be patient.
When the case is solved and you are cleared for any charges, you will usually be reimbursed for lost gametime from what I hear anyway.

If you really really did not do anything above then there is 2 most propable causes for your situation: 1) You have keylogger installed in your computer. That does a lot more than just compromising your EVE account btw - it can also sniff out your bank account details or make you vunerable to identity theft. 2) You used same username and password as you use in EVE in some other website or just same password with overly obvious username. That other website happened to be compromised.

Had a very suspect email today. Giving me 48 hours to reset my password with a link to do it from. I had never asked to reset it as I do it myself every few weeks from "my account". I wonder how many people have tried to reset their password via this email though and have had their account compromised ?
it was from "[email protected]" the hyphen fueled my suspicions and I deleted it. |

If you didn't ask, then it was someone's half-assed attempt to get your password reset. Just change your email password (in case they try to get into that and reset the password from there) and you'll be fine. On another note, I also have an annoying sig.

If you are in doubt about a link in your email, check the source code.
If you see that the link "eve-online.com" is embed in a different link like this, a <href="wesukatgettingadecentjob> "eve-online.com</a> you *know* for SURE it's a malicious email.

I am on my 3rd week of waiting for my main account to be restored to me. There are other posts in the forums with much longer wait times. There is no way to monitor the status of the petition. The processing/investigation of hacked accounts is currently taking 3 to 4 weeks. And it seems that the trend is for ever more hacked accounts and longer wait times.
You only find out if your anti-virus software and firewall are succesfully finding and preventing key logger attacks after the catistrofic failure. I thought I had "good" protection, I was wrong. CCP the hacked accounts are not your fault nor in most cases are they the fault of the players involved. At least generate a you are XX of YY in the queue for restoration of your access to your account... email message.
Thank You

You can put whatever you want as the sender's address if you find an open relay.
The trick to determining if the email is legit is to look at the message headers, something similar to this will appear if it's legit:

Agreed. Day 7 for me and zero communication. I'm working hard on my patience, but I really have to question whether or not I want to support a company with such poor customer support. If I seriously have to wait a month for this fix then my days here are done.

Whilst I applaud them taking measures to protect our accounts, I think it is a real poor show to not even reply to the email and the petition I put up. Just a simple "We're working on it." coming from the GM's would make my mood a lot better. |

Something fishy going on me thinks; I recently got a password reset request from CCP (I never initiated one) and seeing reports of others on the forums (like this one) getting them as well. Uptick in account compromises...
Something to ponder.

yeah, seems like a lot of accounts have been compromised lately..
I get those "password reset" emails all time, usually from games I don't even play. I've never opened any of them however.
I think I was compromised by a keylogger, but no idea how it got on my computer. I have never given out my account details, never surfed an isk farming site, etc. I logged on a week ago to make sure my skills were queued up, logged off, came home at lunch to log on, and found my account banned... ....now all i do is click refresh on my email.

What i still dont understand is that when i tried to login to my account it told me my password was wrong. I checked my email and there has been no password change requests etc. Then i tried to login to Eve website on my main account and it said it DIDNT EXIST.
So theres something else going on here and i want answers. Im starting to think i wasnt compromised but rather theres been some type of glitch in the system.
Not being able to even get a response from them is making it all worse. Im a paying customer like everyone else and play within the games rules. I deserve a response at the very least from a Game Representative but i have recieved nothing. This happened to me on WoW so i rang up and it was resolved within 1 hour.
We pay enough for some Customer Service.

EvE staff have always and will always continue to say that they never ask for your password through email. That was a phishing attempt.

Not necessarly. The e-mail never ASKED for the password, only that it be reset. The difference may be subtle, but it's actually quite large. An administrator of any system will NEVER require your password for any reason, because he already has access to it. There's never any reason for the password to be known to anyone other than the user. (Hence it's use as a security mechanism.)
The matter of the legitimacy of the link however is governed by different controls. SSL certificates verify that the site is who it claims to be. In the e-mail I received, the link was indeed valid.
As for eve-online.com vs eveonline.com, both resolve to the same IP, and both are registered to CCP Games by InterNIC.
It's impossible to tell at this point without more information if the reported account hijackings are related, or even if the number of occurrences is above the normal incident rate (note that number reported incidents are is not the same as the actual number of hijackings.) It may be that there's nothing new out of the ordinary at all.
Regardless of what, if anything, is going on, the same recommended practices apply. Use a unique, strong password. Protect your e-mail account. Keep a malware scanner and keep it up to date. Do not download suspicious attachments or click on questionable links. Reasonable suspicion and common sense is the best defense.
(I still think a two-factor authentication mechanism would go a long way towards rendering account compromise moot, though if this was the only way users could protect their accounts, I'd me much more concerned about other possible compromises to my accounts than whether or not my internet spaceships were safe.)

Sorry to hear, that is normal though. Because of how items are used in game they typically only give isk back on raided accounts and let you rebuy. (Usually give isk for ships and stuff). Otherwise considering how fast things can move around they'd basically have to shut the game down to undo it all.

Fixed it a bit for you.
The haxxors can sell everthing you have through a semibogus contracts that look legit and it is public and everthing but the sellprice is like 1/20 of its market value and thats the isk you get back.
And you can always guess how much you get back if your stash of goodies goes away via a direct trade
As previus poster said, Be glad you got your account back and some startup isk.
