How about color coding the probes in both the the solar system map and the system scanner tab. Then, you could add an option to turn off the labels on probes in the solar system map, making for less clutter and easier clicking. If I click on a probe in the system scanner tab, it should not only become highlighted there, but in the solar system map as well, and vice versa.
Thicken up the arrows for moving probes, so they're easier to grab with the mouse from different angles. Also, maybe add some keybindings for moving probes, and an option to turn the arrows on or off. It'd be sweet to have at least two separate keybindings for each direction, so I could set it up to say....have my left arrow move the selected probe to the left across my map, and shift + left arrow (or whatever keybinding a player preferred) would provide either a coarser or finer rate of movement.
The ability to adjust scan ranges by clicking and dragging the edge of a sphere on the solar system map can be either a convenience or a royal pain in the ass. Add an option to turn that ability on and off, also. Hell, add options to turn everything on and off. At times, there's so much clutter that it's hard not to accidentally click the wrong thing when scanning, which just gets annoying and slows the whole process down. A lot of that clutter could be reduced or eliminated. For example, I don't need to the words "idle" or "scanning" hovering above each probe. I can see whether they're idle or scanning by looking at the animation. I don't really need any information hovering over each probe. I can see what I need to know in the system scanner tab, anyway, and having it on the map just makes clicking and adjusting things there more tedious, with the labels, handles and whatnot all piled on top of each other and getting in the way.
If I highlight a cosmic signature after a scan, the client should remember that, and have the same sig highlighted after the next scan. If I'm trying to narrow down one return out of several, I can easily choose that one after each and every single scan, to view on the map, but why should I have to? Computers make life easier. My ship's computer should, too.
How about a button that would move all probes into the same horizontal plane.
Let me enter distances into the directional scanner in au. Also, down to tenths of an au, at least.
The solar system map really should rotate around the center of the screen, not the center of the solar system. Changing the viewing angle around an outer planet when zoomed in is just way too clunky as is. This may be a bigger problem to tackle, but it's definitely worthwhile. |
