Hi
This is a good effort on ccp's side. But explain me something... Every single time that you guys (ccp)ask for this kind of collaboration from your clients, or at least, every single time that i've tried to make an effort to help, this happens > i copy the current build > i go to eve dl/patches/singularity/etc, and the current build is never listed to be selected in -select version- box, not a single time. Its so strange, read as ridiculous, as this, if you go to the sissy patches page, check the time that i'm posting this btw, the highest build showing on the selection box is 126142 and then, 2 lines below you can read: "Current Client Version: 126344". Seriously dudes, you done coding this, want to do that, and then something this obvious is neglected.
Now, i wish that i'm actually wrong and that i'm not doing it right, because if that's the cause ok, i failed at understanding something and i'll get my deserved smacking. But if it is on your end i just have to ask, how many are you anyway? And, what do you do all day?

As of right now the Sisi patch isn't available to us, so the Sisi patch page shows the TQ client as being the proper patch. Until CCP changes this, the client you have right now is the only one available.
CCP will update the Sisi patch page probably within the next 24 hours and you'll be able to update to the new patch just in time for testing.

Easiest way to get patched up for a test is to copy the tq client to a new folder and make a shortcut of the exe on the desktop adding in the server address in the target line then go here and patch it to the current test build. Works every time.

I will try to make it.
Would it be possible to add some special monitoring code into TQ for the future tho that can be 'activated' on the reinforced node where you expect heavy fighting. That might also help nailing down the issues.

Summing up what should be done to get more people to join these tests:
- Chose a better time. 17:00 GMT is at least an hour too early even for EU. - Make patching easier or at least make the patch available ahead of time - Close 0.0 for sov fights on TQ, i.e. pause timers and freeze structure hitpoints - Offer some kind of reward for people who show up (be it an item, free game time or even a decent amount of ISK -> on TQ ofc!)
That's the essential points. Additionally, you could give pilots on SiSi all skills to 5 for the test.

I'm not taking part in this. testing their software isn't the job of the product end user. I'm paying them for creating new content which includes the testing part too. standard software development. they are shoveling the testing part on us. pretty cheap.

Edited by: Zedic on 26/01/2010 10:18:56 Thanks for the effort CCP.
I wasn't involved in that fight, but can imagine the frustration felt by everyone that was. I've been in huge lag fests before, and node crashes. Politics aside we all love this game and want to see it do well so that we can get our fix playing it. :)
Perhaps I'm lazy (ok fine, I am) but I wish it were easier to log into sisi. I really don't want to download files, or do some sort of googlymoogly stuff just to get the test server to work and then have to change it back again, have it screw up and have to reinstall the whole thing in order to play on TQ again. I wonder if we'll ever be able to just select which server we want to play on with a drop down menu? I don't pretend to understand this stuff, but I could swear we used to be able to do that back in the day.
And maybe it's been fixed now, but I couldn't use my Mac during the Titan test, or some of the other tests in the run up to Dominion. I used my PC and ended up some how messing it up and having to reinstall Eve on that machine. That's too complicated for at least some of your player base. The game is pretty overwhelming to the newer members of the player base as it is, and as it should be. :) I just think that in order for you to cast the widest net possible it should be as simple as possible to switch over to the test server.

Hi there,
I know this has probably been posed before but I want to make it clear, I have tried to patch my copied TQ folder via http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/server_status.php and even added the /server:87.237.38.50 at the end of the shortcut but I keep getting the "incompatible release when I am on the latest release.
Can someone please provide a clear way of actually connecting to this?
Many thanks in advance.

It appears SiSi isn't open for the public at the moment, they may be patching in the logging mechanics that has been mentioned. Just keep watching that page and this thread to see when people start logging in on SiSi. Personally I'd hope it'll be possible sometime today so we can make a few preparations before the testing (and fool around)

- If 0.0 would be frozen then the time would be less important as more people would be willing to participate. The code to freeze is already in right? Because they did it during the grace period after Dominion. - Easier patching or more clear instructions, probably. - Some rewards sure, again, if 0.0 is frozen, I don't think rewards are needed, but icing on the cake.

Originally by: CCP Tanis I'll use this opportunity to bring up that though this particular test doesn't require too many people (only 100+), we will certainly be running more tests to isolate the causes of the current lag on TQ; however, those will require far higher numbers of pilots in order to replicate the behavior that we're seeing on TQ.
We have had issues in the past trying to get more than 200 pilots who actually show up, so we will be trying to find new ways to get players into Sisi for these bigger tests. Details are still being worked out, but we're still feverishly working away at this issue in the meantime. We'll be releasing more info about the larger scale testing soonÖ.
It is very simple. Why should we help you free of charge? all other mmo games pay for these things. CCP has let all of us down at at least one time, make them pay for it this time.
Give us 30 days free game time per player to show up and you will get the numbers you seek, or eve will slowly die off and we the people we move onto another game for their recreational time.
You're a F**king Idiot. How about you quit EVE & troll WoW. noob.
I'll come help test. For free, because I love this game and CCP has done a lot of cool things like Fanfest and such. They wanna test a NEW debugger, but only for an hour, ok so what.

I'd try to join, but the start time is wrong.
I work like most EU folk until around about 5, so its 6 by the time I'm home.
Any chance you could bump it back an hour? 6pm GMT would mean you'd catch folks on UK and into EU timezones.
Just a suggestion

@ Caidis - Of course the real kicker is when performance profiling is the question of whether the very act of observing the behaviour changes the results in any significant way.
Nice line from quantum physics there.

Would love to come and help you fix this but 17.00? No wonder not many people turn up, all the americans have headed off to work / school etc and almost none of the Europeans have headed home. Perhaps if you ran the test around 1900 to 2000 that would make a big difference to how many people turn up.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to test on TQ?
I don't see why you can't patch TQ for a day or just to get the adv logging coded in place that can be enabled during downtime at any given day. People then go about business as usual and you monitor it. Those in fleet flights, encourage to log, and send in the logs afterwards.
Doing that for 1 or 2 days, would give you more data then you would need to find the issue and probably a lot more.
One would think this could just be enabled at dt, and removed the following dt.

The iHUB reinforcement timer in p-2 comes out less than a half an hour from the end of this test, assuming it ends on time. So I can tell you right now that you won't see much if any participation from the alliances involved in p-2. I recommend you reschedule your test if you want participation from these people.

The 'Current Client Version' 2 lines below the dropdown is the version that Sisi's running. The dropdown shows you the version(s) that u might have. So for example, current TQ build is 126344. Page says Sisi runs on build 127178. So all u need to do is select your current build (which would be 126344 if u copied the TQ client), which IS available in the dropdown and download the patch. Tada, apply it, u now have version 127178...

It has to look like this (including the "):
Quote: "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCPTS\EVE\eve.exe" "/server:singularity"
Just with your path to your test-installation.
And yeah, cant access Singularity atm.
