I bought this character yesterday: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1256933
The character has been transferred to my account.
IÆve had several people say that I was scammed. How can I find out without having to wait weeks for my petition to be answered?
If anyone has any information to help me sort this out I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

How was bringing it here wrong?
EVE General Discussion = General discussion about EVE Online.
IÆm asking for other players help. Someone may read this, know the guy who owns the account and call him on the phone.
That would certainly expedite matters.
I donÆt want to play this guy for weeks and then have him taken away and I donÆt want to wait weeks until I can play him.
Any constructive advice out there?

Except this is general discussion About Eve. Not a instant messaging board between players for random issues. Players cannot help you. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

We may be asses, but they do say the truth hurts. We're just not shy about delivering the truth anymore.
Petition is his only recourse, no ifs, no buts. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

You guys are completely missing the point.
This ôISö about Eve.
Players ôCANö help.
Someone out there knows this guy and could contact him directly.
I believe that weÆre a community and one common characteristic of a community is that it watches out for itsÆ members well-being.
Having your account hacked or your information stolen is certainly a topic for General Discussion in my opinion.

Food for thought:
If someone hacked an account and sold one of itsÆ characters, would they be stupid enough to actually transfer the character and give their credit card information?
Seems to me that would make it very easy for CCP to track their identity and prosecute them.
What do you think?

There is your mistake.
No game that prides itself on attracting the dregs of the internet. The scammers, greifers, cheats and asshats that have been banned from all the other MMOs they have signed up for. There will never be any type of a community here. I wouldn't trust my own mother after she played this game for a month.

of course they would give credit card info, but as they are hackers it would be stolen credit card info of course!

Unless you can prove this, you have to take into account one important fact; The forums account for a very small percentage of the actual playerbase. Your chances of that being true, let alone finding the single person who knows this person in REAL LIFE or knows a way of which to contact them in real life, are hilariously slim unless they are an important alliance/corporate figure.
You are best of *hey i'm getting deja-vu here* waiting for your petition to get answered and your case/his case/her case/the case in general investigated BY the GM's.
You have more chance of finding someone who knows this guy by checking his/now your characters employment history and seeing if someone in one of his past corps even remembers him, let alone knows how to get in touch with them. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I'm curious of what actually prompted you to believe that the original character holder's account was hacked.

The first indicator was the price. Then I spoke with him in-game and he was able to answer all of my questions. After I paid him he transferred the character to my account. When I logged into my account someone convoÆd me and said that they had already bought the character. I looked at his wallet history and saw where that person had deposited ISK into his account. I told the person that the ISK was sent to one of his alts as would be expected. I informed him that I was filing a petition to get to the bottom of it and he said that he would do the same.
I bought him knowing that if it was hacked IÆd get my ISK back. ItÆs been a good opportunity to see the inner workings and downside of character trading.
Plus, all of this great banterà

Once the account has been transferred and the fee paid it does not matter whether it was hacked or not, you get to keep the character.
So the original owner might have gotten totally screwed, but if you paid the $20 this character is yours forever now.

You did not pay any fee. In case of hacking character will be transfered back to original account but you will get your ISK back.
