The time it takes to train these skills is a joke.
It's like saying you need to be trained to throw a small rock before you can throw a big one, but in real life that wouldn't help because the small rock handles completely different to the big one.
why is this only on turrets? missiles don't have this problem, you can just specialize in which ever you want without needing the one before. why not turrets??

could be interesting. change the entire tree around so you start on something like hybrid weapon use, then small/med/large hybrid use, then either small/med/large weapon spec or just weapon spec that's a X7 training time and once you have the base specialization of any size done, you can use it. the 2 spec skills would act like the current skills do, and maybe the weapon use skill would effect the way the guns work in a way that's specific to them. tracking for blasters, optimal for rails, cap use for pulse, sig radius on beams, falloff on ACs, possibly falloff on artys too but I don't want to use the same effect twice. |

guns you get access both t2 guns systems with the base level 5. Whle you grind your 5 you get access to both sides meta gear. At large 4, run high meta rails or blasters and its all good.
Missiles takes almost the same time to learn the sr and lr options to be learned completely. Once you master your cruise on your cnr, want moar....retrain for torps for golem/sb. Or the current situation I am in. HML i am pro, no HAM though. Hams will be 14+ days base skill to 5 then tack on spec 4. If like my hybrids or my projectiles....the 14 days would be done based on the hml 5. Its not, the HML does not offset any time.

Training guns and training missiles is apples and oranges.
Hybrid skill gets you railguns and blasters. Rocket skill only gets you rockets. You need another skill for light missiles.
Hybrid V gets you railgun specialization and blaster specialization. Rockets V only gets you rocket specialization. You need to train a second skill to V to to meet the prereqs for light missile spec.
I used to always hear people saying gunnery has more skills (or overall skillpoints available) than missiles, so guns are harder to train. There are three racial varieties of guns (of which new layers generally train only one to be proficient w/ their race's ships), so of course there are more skills in that group. Plus two of the gunnery skills need to be trained in order to use missiles well.
My point is just that comparing gunnery skill training to missile skill training in any way is a waste of time unless you look at the totality of all the skills and how the prereqs line up. |
