As i am now working towards a redeemer, would it be fair to say that training for black ops ships is a stepping stone to cap ships?
also i know i have ALOT of drone skills to do during this time to make use of the drone bay.
if not why?

Well, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other, really ... You could start on either side of the equation and end up either with - or close to - the other. Personally, I found myself going to bed a dreadnought pilot, and waking up able to learn and fly Black Ops - or so it seemed.
The bottom line is this: a lot of the skills are indeed similar, as you point out; and so when you're trainning up one, you're training in the direction for the other. Now, there are some gaps - it's not perfectly synonymous. I believe - off the top of my head - that's more heavily weighted on the cap side (which is to say, you've further to go to jump into a cap from black ops, than the other way around).
And certainly true re: the drones. __________

honestly, thinking a redeemer (assuming none of the skillsets to fly it effectively are trained) and a carrier/moros (you mention drone skills) are anything alike is a mistake.
the only shared skill reqs are racial BS V and Jump drive Operation.
Thier mode of operation and tactics in use are also completely different.

Black Ops , Marauder , Caps ,have some skills that overlap . And some skills that dont overlap , but still are great to have at 5. Its nice to know that getting in one helps get you closer to the other. I trained for the Caps straight away , then came back to catch the other ships in a very short time. I rairly use any of them btw so dont get sucked in to training for ships you dont really have a use for .

Black Ops battleships are very specialised, so unless you're already in a position where you think to yourself, "If only I had a black ops, i'd be able to do X" then dont bother training for one, just do marauders and caps.
That said, Jump Drive Op V and Jump Drive Calibration IV are must-haves for any cap ship pilot.
