Hello, I am trying to figure out an answer for the following guestion. Does gunnery skills like rapid firing and surgical strike also affect missle skills, since I am a real noob atm and would like to train a missionrunner who uses missles. I have recieved different answers from the local chats and the forum search didnt help eighter, so could someone answer this guestion?
Thank you.

no. only two skills from Gunnery group affect missiles: Weapon Upgrades and Advanced Weapon Upgrades

you'd be silly to ignore the skill group, as you'd be limiting yourself from most of the ships in the game Look at me, im using the INTERNETS! |

WU and AWU are all you need if you're using missiles. Some people prefer to excel at one thing rather than be mediocre at everything.

Excelling at two things is quite possible. I use missiles almost exclusively, but I still took the time to train up my gunnery skills (I have most of them at 4, which is not great, but it does let me get some use out of turret boats). ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

maybe in the context of the OP you can ignore all but AW and AWU in the short term. But I wouldn't limit your options to only missiles for too long, it wouldn't be wise. Look at me, im using the INTERNETS! |

Why? As the OP is a Caldari mission runner, what need is there to train Gunnery? I would say train for the ships you want to use/style of play. One of my characters is a Caldari mission runner with 19m SP and I don't intend training Gunnery for a long time. I still have a tremendous amount to train for to get Marauders, Rattlesnake, ECM skills, Drone skills etc.
So to the OP, don't train Gunnery until you have very good Missile skills. I would recommend going all the way up to Torpedo Specialisation 4 as this skill is used by all races for Stealth bombers. Once you have this and you're happy with the other missile skills, then focus on Drones 1st & Gunnery 2nd if you want to cross train to Gallente (very drone focussed boats) or just Gunnery if you want to go down the Minmatar route (they have Missile and Projectile boats). Both will utilise your engineering (shield) SP investment.
A similar arguement can be put to Minmatar pilots but replacing Gunnery with Missiles. For them I would say stick with Gunnery until you're damned good at it before looking at investing in Missile skills (unless you have a specific requirement for a Stealth Bomber).
It's your missile skills that will get you ISK quickly with missioning, not your gunnery skills, so only train gunnery when you feel your missile skills are top notch.
Edit: Of course traing Weapons upgrades 5 and Advanced Weapon Upgrades 4 - these reduce the CPU and Powergrid used by Missile Launchers & gun turrets.

Thanks for all the replys. I chose missles because I read that they are the best choice for mishing and as gunnery skills take a lot of time to train I would like to focus on getting enough specialisation on one subject that would also help me make ISK. As I saw many ppl here have several accounts then maybe when I can afford to buy GTC for ISK I will create an alt that will go down a different path.

AWU is only really needed as a caldari (pve) missile user once you have everything else ready for marauders, the PG load of missile launchers and shield tank is rather low.

I went the opposite direction (6 million SP in gunnery before I even broke 300k SP in missiles), and I do not regret it at all. If you're really determined to be a missile-specialized Caldari mission runner, go for it. There's time enough to train gunnery later if you change your mind, and the stronger you get in one specific weapon type now, the more isk you can generate from missions.
