Being a beta tester is interesting and for some reason I don't mind paying for the privilege. -

The combat. I lock someone up and engage and the heart gets going and I know this will probably end in one or both of us losing our ships. Trying to stay cool whilst my hands are shaking on the mouse when I'm 1v1 on someone in a similar ship class. It's all going to come down to wits and skill. When it's over I'll either have epic bragging rights or colossal woe.

Thats what Willis was talkin' 'bout.
I first got that feeling in a game from dogfighting in freelancer, then later on smuggling. EvE is the ONLY other game I've had reproduce that.
Its literally like running from the cops, very similar chemical reaction. Or riding a to speed bicycle at 60mph. Adrenaline and endorphins being released, a natural high. That's the "hardcore" version.
The "light" version of that feeling is like a fuzzy navel. that warm feeling of constructing and flying a killing machine with the intent to kill. This is clearly a signature. |

The joy of accumulation...skill points, loyalty points, research points, ISK (though I don't do that as proficiently as I used to...can't be arsed, don't have the time), friends, ships I'll never fly, and modules I'll never use.
I also like to set various goals for myself to keep working towards something rather than just floundering aimlessly.
Current goal: Acquiring an Avatar (titan) and reasonable fittings with access to far less in resources than it actually takes.

I like building up very expensive ships, full of faction mods, and then destroying them in PvP
for some reason I get a lot of hate for that, tho

Edited by: McRoll on 29/04/2010 18:48:26 - more mature community than in other MMO's (not always but more often) - unique game design - no instances - no realms - complexity - no grind, nothing that you "have to do" like raiding for that items to progress further - you can do what you want, game design doesnt force you into a way of playing - losses are punished - I <3 sci- fi and spaceships
and the most important thing:
Eve is one of the last remaining games that aren't dumbed down so the last brainless "casual" is able to achieve something in it. I hope that Eve will last long enough so I have something to play when only casual games will be produced.
