Right. What I want basically is to research some BPOs i have.. So I thought of setting up a POS in lowsec to research them for a little while. -Problem is, as I understand it a POS must be owned by a corp, and the corp I am in must have an office at the station that is in the POS system. I wish I could launch a POS for personal use only :)
You see, I fear that any corp member can come on down and cancel the research job, and snag the BPO from the corp hangars.. (yes I know you can lock stuff, but i dont have that access) The other way would be to put the BPO in the lab manually, but since its a small POS it is likely to be under attack and the BPO lost. :(
Are the only way to be safe really to leave my corp and make an alt one? *sad*

yes..
u'll have to ask yourself too, if corp in which u are in, trustes u enoguh to give u roles that are needed for controlling POS. Maybe they have POSes on their own and u could easily be that thief that takes everything.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote: "For me EvE wasn't that much fun, many ppl refer to it as a nicely designed database front-end and that |

Aye that is why I am worried :)
They dont have POSses, but are the trusting kind, wich means all corp hangars are free for all to take and put into.
Stuff gets taken frequently, but other then that the core is a great bunch..
Strange that you cannot launch a pos for personal use only, it is almost like EvE wants everyone to share and risk their assets.. or make a bunch of single toon alt-corps..

Have a director lock the bpo. If you don't trust even a director to do that (and unlock it for you when you are done), then there's really no option.
Unless it's a very valuable BPO (BS or up), it's not likely to even be worth anyone's time to steal it.

This is one of the reasons why a research alt is handy.
I have a POS-sitter account that never leaves the POS (its in w-space). He does most of my research manufacturing (I have 3 accounts), keeps the tower fueled, and can man the defenses if needed. Saves me from having to train my main for these tasks too.

you can join my one man corp for a bit, until your research is completed. I won't bother your stuff, and I only ask for the ability to do a little research on one of my BPOs. convo me ingame if you are sick of the greedy bastards that play this game. :-) - B. Wilks

POS in lowsec for research? I advice against it. If you can get one set up in highsec it will be a lot safer, but it does require faction standings.

Your BPO does not have to be in the POS to be researched or copied. Train the scientific networking skill to the level that you can keep the BPO's in the closest NPC station. I research and copy BPO's whilst the BPO's never leave the NPC station. So dont worry about that. Getting access to the POS needs to be squared away with your CEO/directors as others have commented.

Here's what you should probably do:
First, make sure that the corp CEO gives you Configure Starbase Equipment access, so you can do whatever you want with a POS. Since the corp has no other POSes, that shouldn't be a hard sell.
Next, find an empty moon in highsec where the corp's standings will allow you to anchor. (5.0 standing with the sovereign faction for 0.5 sec, 6.0 for 0.6 sec, 7.0 for 0.7.)
Set up your POS. Under POS management, make sure that the box next to "Allow corporation member access" is unchecked. Don't share the POS password with anybody, and manage the station entirely by yourself. Now it's more or less private.
Keep the BPOs in the POS. Your corpmates might be able to sabotage you by canceling your jobs (I'm not sure) but they won't be able to get into the forcefield to grab the BPO. You'll be safe from in corp theft.
Check EVE at least twice a day. In highsec, no one will be able to attack your POS without a wardec. If you get wardeced, remove the BPO from your POS immediately! Remember, you get 24 hours notice before hostilities can begin. That should keep you safe from out of corp theft.
Remember to make your POS password something really hard to guess, and realize that you'll have to input it every time you want to get in. Also, I don't think you'll be able to log off inside your shield.
Best of luck.

This sounds to me like a job for a research alt. Get a new account, make a new character and train up just the skills needed to anchor a tower and labs and run research. For a little extra security, train Anchoring all the way to 5 and get Starbase Defense Management to 4.
Important point: DO NOT DO THE TUTORIAL MISSIONS! You need this character to have no faction standings at all.
Go buy a pre-made corporation or hire one of the standing services to make one for you. Take possession of this corporation, and use its standings to anchor the tower in hi-sec, making sure it's in a system that has NPC stations. Rent a corporate office in that station, keep your blueprints in the hangar, and do the research from there.
That way, you won't have to worry about corp-mates stealing from you (you don't have any), you don't have to worry about blueprints being lost if the POS gets blown up (they're in the station), and you don't have to worry about standings degrading to the point where you can't reanchor the tower if you upsize or need to put down another one (since you have no faction standing and no other members, the corp will retain the initial standings it had when you gained ownership of it). ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |
