I only recently started trying out cloaking. I have a few questions if you could be so kind -
1. In a WH I noticed that people would come very close to my cloaked ship - I figured they knew I was there, but they didn't fully expose me. How exactly does this work? Did they have a means of tracking me down but were too lazy to get me or was that as close as they could get so they moved on?
2. My alt was dropping off gas to my cloaked hauler and it made my cloaky lose cloak - does this mean if another ship comes close to your ship it breaks the cloak?
3. I guees my main question is: If i am in an WH, low or null and i see something unpleasant on D-Scan, if i warp to a safe spot and cloak will I be safe or is it only a matter of time until the inevitable occurs?
Thanks |

Hello Breezly Brewin
1) In order to break your cloak someone needs to be within 2000m of you. This means cans/ships, drones do not decloak you anymore.
2) See Above
3) If you warp to a safe spot and cloak up no one will be able to find you. No matter how much they scan so your safe. Unless they have your safe spot bookmarked in which case if they warp to it and warp within 2000m of you they can decloak you.
Hope that helps any additional questions don't hesitate to ask me :) ISD Athechu Commander ISD STAR (Support Training and Resources) EVE New Citizens Q&A Resources |

Woah. That is news to me. Missed that memo. Thank you. That explains why I survived a near miss when someone in a mega tried to align decloak me with his drones out at 2235 and I still remained cloaked. When you're cloaked, you don't appear on dscan/combat probes. As athechu mentionned, any object in space coming within 2000m from you will drop your cloak, even gas clouds or missiles, except another cloaked ship (was needed for stealth bombers gangs). You probably know it, but for others who wouldn't, a planet, a custom office, the sun, or any other thing showing in the otherview with the "All" setting or a random spot on a warp route, IS NOT a safe spot. You can't be located when cloaked, but if you need to wait until you exit warp to cloak (no cov-op cloak+ship), this leaves ample time to someone with good dscan skills and a few combat probes, to have a good guess of your location and they can then proceed to scout the area and eventually find you. You should clarify your grammar. This sounds like cans, ships and drones do not decloak, not that cans/ships decloak, and drones do not.
I even went and tested it to make sure cans still decloaked stuff before coming back and realizing that you knew all along. Now I'm confused :P
So cans can cloak now? There are two kinds of player. -áThe kind that adapts to the game, and the kind that expect the game to adapt to them. -áDo don't a number 2 on EvE. -áThank you. |

So cans can cloak now? Getting within 2 km of a can still decloaks you. Same as getting within 2 km of a ship or other space object. The exceptions are few and far between (such as drones). Do NOT decloak when within 2000m from you:
- Drones - Other cloaked ships.
Do decloak you when within 2000m from you:
- Ships (non cloaked) - Containers - Biomass (Corpses) - Gates / stations - Bubble generators (in null-sec) - Anything else that is not mentioned in the not decloaking part. Really? I thought they did, and this is why organized bomber wings are limited to 10-12 bombers. They changed it with Crucible. Read patch-notes next time, they changed is so bombers can operate in groups more effectively.
And actually proper bomber wings are 7 bombers, any more and the bombs will destroy themself. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. I do read the patch notes, but I must've missed that. That's pretty awesome.
Not sure where I remembered 10-12 from, also. My bad. Rifterlings - Small gang lowsec combat corp specializing in frigates and cruisers (all races, not just Rifters!). I am fairly sure corpses do not decloak you. They used to but it was changed a fairly long time ago. "Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason." |
