Nice idea bro. Way-to-be productive. Destroyers only have 3 roles that I can think of right now.
1. Salvage boats 2. Suicide-grief-miner boats 3. A noobs first ship after frigate
I don't see any reason that there should be more of a selection of destroyers, though it would be interesting to see some new models! Maybe post some actual creative ideas?

Care to elaborate on what role you think they should fill? Otherwise what would the point of more of them be?

Seriously, the game's fine as it is, i mean, a destroyer is only useful for salvage, personally i didn't train the skill until i started salvaging.
Also, what is varity?

I love destroyers and more ships to choose from is always fun...but CCP does try to only add ships if they fill a role. Until we have stronger needs for the destroyers we have there simply is no need for more of a unpopular class.

Edited by: Viktor Fyretracker on 09/02/2010 07:13:13 it would be kinda cool if they for example had a form of "Flakk Cannon" for use against fast buggers like light drones and interceptors. or one could give them a ship type bonus to web range so while normally its around 10km on a destroyer they would get 25-30km web range.
another interesting support aspect to the destroyer would be a new form of E-War, deployment of sensor decoys. for example since cyno fields can show up system wide afaik a destroyer could drop fake field bouys that would show up to people as the real thing. the hard part would be ship decoys as they would have to be ship models to the enemy fleet but not really be ships
or could even do like WW2 Destroyers and push them into ASW(in the case of EVE that would be Anti-Stealth Warfare instead of Submarine killing) this would get way more complex as the destroyer would need something like a sonar pulse that would for a few seconds illuminate a cloaked ship allowing proximity rockets(space hedgehogs/ depth charges in short) that would hit the cloaked ship.

I've been thinking along these lines myself. The T2 variant (interdictor) gets a bonus for launching warp disrupt bubbles. Why not give the T1 destroyers a bonus to stealth finding probes or a de-cloak burst module (with a set range and a certain chance to hit ships within range, the damage need not be more than a single point for the cloak to drop).

another Idea would be allowing Destroyers to "slave" their sensor package to the fleet, meaning other ships can have that scan resolution. but make it some form of high slot module so if you wanted to slave to 8 ships you couldnt also have 8 guns.

That would obsolete all cloaked ships overnight, a better suggestion would be let Interdictors drop a web bubble, but not within a certain range of the disrupt bubble. (that would be a little over powered)

not really because the destroyers would still have to figure out where to look.

You mean just like in real life? It's not like destroyers can detect subs. They just drop charges where they think they would be. ----------------------------------------------- Free Trade Corp - Flash page

there are several ways to detect a sub, not the least of which is human error. When a ship is trying to "hide" They run silent. They get caught when someone aboard the sub makes too much noise. As it is we have a very limited number of ships that can cloak effectively. They do screw it up, look at the killboard some time. There are 16(20 if you count T3) ships in the game can warp cloaked, doesn't seem that bad really.
