So most of us have seen CCP's video the Butterfly Effect. The video shows a player given the choice to help another player, destroy him or just fly on by and leave him to his fate.
Now I'm flying in low-sec like I do and I come upon players in the faction warfare militia shooting a Gallente Federation Instillation in low-sec. I decide to help them kill the GFI.. but wait I can't I can't lock or fire my guns on an object in low security space unlike my friends in the militia!
If you are a neutral player, a friendly Gallente or Minmitar player you cannot interact with this structure the game wont allow you to partake in this part of Eve-online's gameplay.
This is how FW works: Militia members do complexes for many hours or days pushing a hostile factions system into a vulnerable state. When a system becomes vulnerable you can attack the Instillation and take it into structure and the system will be conquered/flipped.
Lets recap: 90% of eve players can't assist in killing this structure or repair it when vulnerable and most Eve players don't really care to ether way but in this case the game takes that choice away from you. GÇ£Oh you paid money to play in the Eve-online sandbox? Go f*** yourselfGÇ¥. That basically what I'm feel like the game is telling me.
Now the argument for this game mechanic could be that CCP did not want neutral players effecting the outcome of Faction Warfare to much. Well they don't and can't because the backbone of flipping FW systems is plexing that can only be done by FW members. Capturing FW plexes by militia members makes sense gameplay wise and even role playing wise but invulnerable structures in low-sec unless you are apart of of some little Eve-club is ******* game breaking. (What ever reason for this mechanics it does not go hand in hand with the true vision of the Eve-online. GÇ£Do anything be anythingGÇ¥.)
Almost no one gives a dam about FW because it has been broken since day one and is still broken today the only thing CCP did was to turn it into an Isk faucet. Even if you hate FW you should start thinking of what CCP will make invulnerable next.
Should mission runners be unscannable in high-sec? Should miners in high-sec be invulnerable while their mining lasers are online? Should players for their first 30 days be invulnerable?
I know that CCP is busy with Dust 514 for the next 6 months while Eve-Online sits on the back burner but this is just to much stupid. It's a stupid game-mechanic and who ever thought of it and implemented it should strung up like a pinata and the CSM should take the Banhammer to him until he forgets his old World of Warcraft raiding days that he obviously loves to much.

Yes, let neutrals attack FW targets, but in doing so immediately become enemy's of that faction and no longer welcome in that empire. Like all other FW players commit to.

That would absolutely have no way of being horribly abused, and I'm sure I can't think of several ways instantly. Incursions still need to be nerfed more. Cut payouts by 50% for all ships worth more than 10m. |

My opinion on faction warfare is:
Give everybody a 60 notice of the following. War in the FW systems is increasing. Due to the likelihood of spies, all pilots that are not aligned with a faction are to be considered an enemy of the state and a valid faction war target.
What this means: If you are not in FW, you have 60 days to GTFO! If you are not in a FW group, after the 60 days is up, you are now an enemy of the state and considered a valid FW but ALL sides. (with all appropriate rewards). This includes any POS in the area. Gate guns will not protect you if you are in contested systems, TFB!
This will deal with fleet boosting alts, spies, and plex helpers. This is supposed to be a war, so lets make it one! If you are a player that has a POS in the area your choices are clear: -Pick a side -Move -Deal with whatever happens.
60 days will allow for any squatter with a POS to find a new home, same goes for people with customs offices. Heck, For the last week, increase the sec standing of all FW systems to 0.5 to allow people to leave (bury in it some BS cease fire agreement or some other BS).
Once the 60 days is done, death to all who are not 'us'.
If I tried to make a type of coffee that made all of you happy, and you rated it, the group score for it would be about 60 out of 100. Break into 3 or 4 coffee clusters, and made coffee just for each cluster, the scores would go from 60 to 78. The difference between coffee at 60 and coffee at 78 is a difference between coffee that makes you wince or makes you happy. |

If you really want credibility for the points you try to make, ending the post like this just brands you an emotional twelve year old. Giving people your opinion and then slapping them at the end of it is a really poor communication strategy. Just saying. |

You are right. After so many years of broken FW I do have an axe to grind. |

Sure, FW feels like a game within a game. And not as solid a game, although with its own rewards. I don't think you can solve this by adding even more flakey/exploitable FW-particular mechanics.
You can't capture plexes, but you can kill/chase out Caldari in plexes. You can't kill FW Ihubs (really?), but you can help protect the militia fleet that's shooting it. You can help with Gallente logistics (cargo+repping) in Caldari space where Gallente can't dock. You can be invited to intel channels and report on them. |

I think the title could had been a little more tasteful. sorry you don't agree with their game design mechanics. like others said, join the militia if you want to participate in FW.
this sounds like a whaaaa post because you were too noob to know that you couldn't do that already, and now you throw a hissy fit on the forums because you think CCP should change it for you.

Easy fix is have the systems off limits to "civilians" aka non enlisted players,
You can just add a recruitment npc at the link gates that let you join up to either team.
