I'd like to point people who are unsure about how to setup an EVE client to connect to the test server to a little tool I created: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1271726
I just made a new copy of my reference client (the normal EVE client), set the "Singularity" switch and let the auto-patcher update the client. Worked without any problems and I'm connected to the test server now...
Hope to see you there, Ban Doga

Seems to be backwards to the instructions in the OP. There it says to patch first and then set the switch. Maybe that is the problem.
Well the patch that was linked is exactly the same as the one the auto-patcher will use. So I guess it will work one way or the other.
In any case this was meant as instructions for the "EVE Client Manager" I made...

Are there no results from the earlier tests or did I just miss them?
Specifically I mean http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1238523 http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1257152 http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1261686
Originally by: CCP Tanis Also, the test today was announced on such short notice because we wanted to get a potential fix into testing ASAP so that it can get out to TQ faster, instead of waiting several days. We figured you folks would rather we keep trying to fix things instead of waiting for "better timing".
Looking at the results - IMO it's merely a summary of the individual experiences, nothing anyone who participated didn't know already - I have the impression that after 2 months of testing you are still trying to find the actual problem, instead of trying to develop a solution to it.
So are there any fixes already, some changes or ideas that were derived from the test result(s)?

For everyone who does not want to go through all the manual steps necessary for creating a client for the test server I created a little tool that will provide a GUI for doing this.
Maybe you will find this easier: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1271726

1. Copy Tranquility client to new location 2. Download SiSi patch (Linkage) 3. Apply patch to the location u copied the client to in step 1 4. ... 5. Profit
no need for manual configuration no need for external programs to be used
fly safe
Of course after starting with "For everyone who does not want to go through all the manual steps" someone who actually does want to do all the steps manually has to reply. And of course you have to point out that there is no need for external programs even tho no one said that there is one.
Why didn't you point out that the moon is not made out of cheese? After all no one said it was either.
Why do I even bother...

You want even more results?? Geez, you're hard to satisfy, eh?

I take it the test results are an indication of the progress.
So seeing that the performance during the tests has decreased from 5.2 (slightly better than current TQ) to 4.7 (slightly worse than TQ) is making me wonder how it will be when Tyrannis hits the server.
EDIT: I still think you are still trying to figure out what's really going on and far from developing a solution. Especially "Still seeing low FPS reports, seems to be getting worse" is making me wonder if you can even predict whether your changes are going to make it better or worse until you see them running.

CCP, it's good that you can see this now but please open up to us on what you have learnt about the problem at a techinical/system level, what fixes have been tried already and what more is being done.
<sarcasm> Yes CCP, give me a copy of your source code so I can see what fixes you are making and if they are good enough. If you do not, all veteran players will be fed up and quit. </sarcasm>
You do realize that EVE is proprietary software, correct? CCP doesn't owe you or anyone any technical information regarding the fixes they are making.
They have made it clear that they do need our help testing on Sisi. So instead of worrying about the technical details, log onto Sisi for the test and let CCP do the work. At the end of the day, all the user needs to know is that the software works, not the why or how.
Who was talking about source code?! Oh right, you were...
Well there are several levels of abstraction that do not involve pasting or quoting source code while still explaining what's going on.
How do you think do software engineers communicate when they talk about how to solve a problem? In source code??
Just take a look at the devblog about the grid loading bug. There are some explanations that are comprehensible and do provide some insight. However for some unexplained reason there is not a single line of code in it. Truely amazing, isn't it?!

Any updates on this? Any new test events? Any results? Any progress?
FAKE EDIT: It's also a bit annoying that the info is spread across different forum sections.

My estimate based on the lack of tests or feedback on them is that they did not find anything they could fix before Tyrannis was released. Once May 18th comes we'll have to start all over again on the new software base and see what comes out.
At the moment all resources will be focused on getting Tyrannis out the door in a somewhat good shape on time and lag fixing will have to wait.
You are quite right there. I just found this:
Quote:
...
6:41 CCP_Hammerhead: Right, the lag can be blamed on the game design being too much of a success. We got our wish and made small critical flash points that are fun to play (if they work). But we're working on it. Our leet coders have leads and should have what we feel will be major improvements in summer. Fixes to the "black screen" that is seen in large fleet battles when jumping into a new system.
...
6:43 CCP_Hammerhead: I'm not a programmer and the things they are doing is pretty advanced as you can imagine so I won't attempt to go into the details. All I can really say is there is light at the end of the tunnel.
6:44 CCP_Hammerhead: And I should add that we didn't want to put these changes in at the exact time we were launching a big new feature because it would be hard to judge the improvements compared to the performance change that will be caused by PI.

SNIP (because of length restriction)
Good to hear something again. Although the message is not very convincing.
Could you say something to this "light at the end of the tunnel" that appears to be held back until summer like CCP Hammerhead said (he said CCP don't want to deploy it at the same time as Tyrannis, so I assume there is something that could be deployed but won't be - or did he really mean there is nothing to deploy as of this time?)
Regarding that "keep everyone as well informed as possible": I don't feel well informed at all. This testing started in January and all we heard since then is "we get great data", "still investigating", "keep it coming". It's literally the same message during all this time - it's basically no information.
When you say you want to continue with this investigation in the coming months and don't want to talk about the results until you know all the facts and resolved the problem - we're still talking about lag here, right? - when do you expect this to come to an end which will lead to a deployment of a patch and some kind of public result?

I got this error.
"Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong."
Sisi is up and running, over 500 people connected. So something is wrong on your end.
Make sure the IP-Address is correct. You can also use "/server:singularity" instead of the IP-Address...
