Edited by: Vax Silver on 21/03/2010 15:59:20 Well these are just my observations. Brought an Archon and played close support for the caps of fleet #2.
With graphics down and brackets off it was laggy but playable at about 400 pilots in system.
Only encountered two of what I would call major bugs.
#1 was that Eve-voice was totally hosed in a fleet that big
#2 was that after my carrier got popped by a DD (thanks CCP Stillman btw) my pod just floated there unable to move, warp or anything. I ended up having to self-destruct it to get out.

I was piddlin' with PI when the popup announced the test, & decided to go see.
The first test, jumping the Stillman fleet into an empty system went ok, but for the second one into a camped gate, I watched as maybe half our fleet made the jump, & was left behind with the other half that hadn't clicked the Jump button in less than an instant after he called Jump Jump Jump...after three or four minutes the session finally changed and I landed into No Grid.
Watched the fight in the fleet chat for a good 10 minutes, eventually somebody's drone found me and began scratching me slowly to death. At least the HUD worked, but no alarms. I probably should have just relogged, had plenty of time. The drone finally finished its work, HUD vanished, still no grid or pod. Waited over 30 minutes just to see if grid would ever load, then relogged & flew home in the pod.
During the fight pilots were complaining about all the pods not leaving (couldn't). Fleet voice was out the whole time, even the menu option vanished. |

by gee more stress tests this must be a pretty major issue for ccp to be devoting so much resoruces to it and taking them away from tyrannis. CCP have been very quite which indicates theres something not qutie right i do hope its sorted soon Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

Fixed as best as I could.
Since we are nearing the fourth month mark for Dominion, it sure would be nice to get a intermediate patch (<cough> roll-back <cough>) addressing this Dominion-specific performance issue.
There may be an upswing in larger scale fighting sometime soon(TM). Unfortunately, the agility of CCP's development and testing staff's efforts to make right on a MMO game-breaking programming / architecture ****-up is looking sluggish. If the analysis of this issue is truly alluding the bug hunter(s), then I suggest putting more CCP personnel in the field (or even covertly into fleets) with as many analysis and logging tools running as possible. If there is a potential fix published up to the test server, then FFS advertise that fact and initiate more testing sessions.
Yes, making new content (Tyrannis) is nice and is clearly a part of CCP's business plan, but fixing that which once worked and is a significant MMO-element in EVE is just as important.

Just a question that may or may not have been adressed, but I could not see a definitive post on the matter.
is this limited to strictly alliances or will there be staff on hand to handle lone pilot volunteers? I'll try to be there, but I do not believe my alliance has signed itself up.

I have a question about the planetary interaction.. When i start linking and routing things, i sometimes get a message that says "this route will have to much traffic" or something like that and i have no clue what that means and how to avoid it. I've asked this questions in other topics and no one has answered me.
Anyone know? |

I just did it completly normal - I started my test EVE client - it said "you need the patch" (132199), and so on ... 160+ players at this moment
The mirror copy seems to be from 16-DEC
160+ players ? no wonder it's hard to get enought players to test that.
testing things in the test server is actually cool, but not everyone knows how to join , most cases I've seen , have been one player explaining other directly, how to connect, and only then, there's a extra tester.
maybe CCP would like to include in the help section, a tutorial about it. or a link directing to it. not everyone knows or is in the mood for that sort. and is really important to test that.
well, it's good to know how low is the frequency on the test server, so we understand the need of having more people joining. i suggest everyone to help others reminding to participate and joining the test server, on a personal basis, as i've seen it's one of the most effective ways. if there's other effective way, i haven't witness that.

I would be happy to help with this (notwithstanding timing issues like being on the wrong side of the world, but if i'm up, i'd be in) if it could be made more of a no-brainer to enter the test server. As it is, i'm looking at the instructions for setup and thinking "uhh...if I screw this up, my real game probably won't work either...".
What would be super-L33t (and not that I'm a coder, but I guess reasonably achievable) would be a button on the main, normal login page that said "TEST SERVER", and in one click, poof, there I am logged into the test server.
I have the Means (a PC), the Motive (i love this game) and probably the Opportunity (heh, is that the time?), but what would really help would be making it easier to get through the configuration, and I really don't see why that couldn't be reduced to One Click. THAT would get the numbers in!
Failing a One Click solution, a wee .exe that sets up the test-server-entry conditions would be good. |

It is actually incredibly, incredibly easy. You don't have change anything in any files. Get to your eve folder (c\program files\ccp\eve), highlight the eve folder, control+c, get to your desktop, control+v. Wait for it to move the files, go to the patch page, click the button that says "update from current live patch" or whatnot, then when it says to install it to the directory NOT your eve directory, just point it to the one on desktop. And you're good to go.

well , the point is true, certainly, having a shortcut in the game folder , with the test server pre-built in, would be nice. the steps to connect there aren't complicated, but still, not everyone knows or is confident enough or just want to have the work, to connect to the test server.
automatizing those steps, would contribute for more test players.

For everyone who does not want to go through all the manual steps necessary for creating a client for the test server I created a little tool that will provide a GUI for doing this.
Maybe you will find this easier: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1271726

on the test date. Lets say, one hour before the singularity battle is to begin, send a game wide message that the "Tranquility server will be down for two hours for the Singularity "Test Battle" to begin. Everyone interested to compete must log on Singularity. Tranquility will be back online when completed." You would get alot more players on that would rather keep playing and who in interested in fleet fights if never been in one.

Of course after starting with "For everyone who does not want to go through all the manual steps" someone who actually does want to do all the steps manually has to reply. And of course you have to point out that there is no need for external programs even tho no one said that there is one.
Why didn't you point out that the moon is not made out of cheese? After all no one said it was either.
Why do I even bother...
