Hi, does anyone have feedback from CCP about this, if they consider it a bug or a driver problem?

Like you all I too have an ATI Radeon card. I too had the problem of freezing when exiting the station, however I have fixed my problem and with a few suggestions I hope I can help you all fix yours. My card, Original Radeon 64MB VIVO, was crashing constantly when exiting station. I tried tweaking some of the settings, completly reloading the EVE client but it wasn't until I updated my video drivers that the problem went away. By he way I am using XP and I do not have SP2 installed. This appears to be the solution, not anything to do with the EVE client. Now for those of you that are still having this problem even after upgrading I would suggest completly removing your ATI video drivers, that includes potentially doing some reg editing. I had to do this some time ago when I had a video problem with another one of my games. After removing them completly simply reinstall and with any luck you should be off and running.

Edited by: Nikodaemonicus on 30/11/2004 19:55:45 I don't freeze or crash at stations. I do freeze at NPC spawns, and a lot. My EVE starts using 99% cpu and all is freezed. I already lost 1 apoc due to this. And it's happening me always when I am on a spawn and/or a mater warps to where am I.
I have tried everything and nothing works. Do log server will record what's happening to me when my eve freezes near an NPC spawn or will I waste my time and pacience (and faith) ?

I have a Radeon Mobility 9000 in my laptop and had the same problem. I will try the new drivers y'all have linked to. But I discovered that if I turn the Depth Type setting to none in the general setup after hitting esc key that I have much more success in crash free playtime. There are a couple of side effects to this though, like your ship is invisible in stations unless viewed from the bottom and you can see inside stations from the outside. But it seems a lot more stable then before. And I can see the places where the game would be crashing to by the sudden freezing of the animation but it now regains the animation instead of freezing.

I like most of u have ATI Radeon 9000 card. EVE froze during station exit and starting warp. In full screan mode I needed to reboot computer but switching to windows allowed me to close and restart EVE. I "cured" the problem by turning off the z buffer option (last in the graphic menu) since then no problems.

Originally by: modena I have a mobile 9200 and get the same problems, i am running the latest normal ATi drivers using a mod program. No problems in Castor. Going to try Omega drivers.
Omega drivers slowed my laptop down and eve wouldnt load. I have gone back to the manufacturer (Acer) supplied driver and need to test it now.

I thought i was the only one having these problems still i saw this thread! lol I'm running an ATI 9000 mobility too, same problems as everyone else, crashin in warp usually. It is makin the game nearly unplayable, really annoying. Has anyone downloaded the optional patch that was released a few days ago and if it solves the problem? my laptop manufacturers have been rubbish at getting me drivers that work, and modding the latest catalyst drivers dont' seem to be working either. As with everyone else, was fine in Castor, but there must be an issue with some bit of code they've implemented in Exodus. WE NEED UR HELP CCP!

i have been having this problem for over a year now on and off. I use both a desktop and a laptop and my laptop freezes completely now and again especially from one system 4C-B7X. No alt-ctrl-del can save my machine and a complete reboot of laptop is required. I've always thought this to be a strange one. I'm running a geforce graphics card (can't remember the exact spec).
Have we had any response on this from CCP at all?!
cheers

No depth buffer = ****
I will try that, but EVE looks horrible.
What's the point on buying a game oyu cannot play? Because if I do I will freeze when 10 npc respawn and I will die again.
Can CCP reimburse losses due this bug? I'm very curious.
Btw I have installed 4.11 and I freeze 1% less than before. So it not worked for me. |

Win 98 SE , ATI 8500 .
Odd.
For those who are crashing in pirate spawns, i went NPC killing for several hours and didn't freeze at all.In fact, till there is a solution (hope the next patch has it) i'm docking only the necessary and not more.
It seems a quite difficult issue.

Niko... there isn't a line in the pref file for the Depth Buffer, it is an option on the graphics menu when you hit the esc key...

Hi, i tried the game from my old laptop using a gforce 5200 and it worked fine, even though the driver are *older* than the ATI ones i use on my main laptop, so about 1 1/2 year out of date :)
My guess is, that it's a problem with ATI cards and not really related to the drivers, as the game works fine with "ancient" gforce drivers :), and third party mods don't seem to work with everyone
To my surprise the game ran really smooth on the old machine, really impressive how good the programming seems to be :)
Has anyone got feedback from CCP, i read the patch notes of the patch that was supposed to be released today but there was no mention about "our" issue :(
