I have a theory or possible connection (and yes add my name to the list of people who can't warp away from a station). In exodus the sun is occluded by ships regardless of the setting you might have! I noticed this one of the few times I was flying about. The ship clearly occluded the sun. We've all known for a long time this feature can cause problems on many machines and most of us have it turned off (those of us with problems anyway).
Anybody have a suggestion on how to return this "feature" back off?

I must have had a lucky run there for a while, paying for 4 hours and not one crash. Docking and undocking a number of times with out any problem. But the gremlin is back, I have crashed when undocking 3 times in the past 10 minutes.
Oh well, back to sitting in a station earning no money and training skills
What a great game this is! Remind me how much im paying to use this service?? oh yes.. Ç14.95 a month!

Hi, a statement from CCP would be in order now I think, after all the upgrade is one week old and there seem to be a lot of people having this problem...I filed a question with Eve support a few days back, no answer yet... Did anyone file a bug report, or get *some* kind of statement?

For everyone with this problem, please calm down and take a breath or 2. I was having this problem too and I came to the conclusion its lag. My computer is fast enough and totally up to date. The only reason the game is messing up is due to the freakingly high amount of lag right now. PC specs below.
AMD 3200+ 64 bit 1 gig of DDR 2700 FX 6800 ultra latest drives and version of DX9

Curious, how does lag cause a program to terminate itself or lockup a program to the point that the PC must be rebooted. I don't know what your problems were, but mine are definately NOT lag.

Anybody have a suggestion on how to return this "feature" back off?
OK, I am now 100% sure this is what's causing the problem, at least for me. How do I know? I have 2 accounts that I run on 2 different installs on the same machine. On one account I have the problem described above (sun occluded not working properly) and on the other I have no problems.
I ask again, anybody have a suggestion on how to make it so that sun occluded is actually turned off and remains so?

I am extremely disappointed with how EVE runs on my notebook, I get an average of 15 fps and here are my specs:
EMACHINES M5309
AthlonXP Barton (512 cache) 2600+ (2.0 GHz 266fsb) DDR 2x256 PC2100 ram (CL 2.5 hynix 266mhz) ATI 320M IGP (GPU>182 MHz, RAM>133 MHz) Toshiba 4200rpm HDD AC97 sound ALI M1535+ south chipset (with most recent driver pack: Integrated2.07) Latest bios ME07
DRIVER SETTINGS:
Anisotropic Filtering ------- Application Preference Anti-Aliasing --------------- Application Preference Texture Preference ------- Performance Mipmap Detail Level ------ High Performance Z Buffer Depth ------------ 16 V-Sync --------------------- Always off
Alpha Dither Method ----- Ordered (results in improvement over Error diffusion setting) Alternate Pixel Center --- Disabled Colorfill -------------------- Default Compressed Textures --- Enabled Hierarchical Z ------------- Enabled Pixel Shader Version ----- Default Table Fog ----------------- Enabled TCL ------------------------ Default Vertex Shade Version ---- Default W Buffer ------------------ Disabled (using W Buffer in game didnÆt result in any performance over Z Buffer) W Fog --------------------- Disabled Z Fog ---------------------- Enabled
GAME SETTINGS:
MODE ---------------------- Full screen Color depth --------------- 16 bit Resolution ---------------- 1280x800 Depth/stencil format ----- 16-bit z-buffer Depth buffer type -------- Z Buffer Multisample type --------- Disabled Present Interval ---------- Interval Immediate Interlace ------------------ OFF Widescreen --------------- OFF Dither --------------------- ON Transparency ------------- .255 (transparent windows result in lower FPS)
WINDOWS XP SETTINGS:
All background programs are disabled Windows services where brought down to only 10 that are set automatic, rest disabled Windows is set to use all 512kb cache (default setting for 512kb processors in XP is 256kb) Many other windows tweaks where done for improving performance
For video drivers I use catalyst 4.9 modified for notebook use, installing 4.10 and 4.11 results in about 20% lower performance (that I really donÆt understand why) Right now IÆm impatiently waiting for release of Catalyst 4.12 if they donÆt fix my low fps problem I will cancel my account, the game is almost unplayable and with all graphics/engine glitches I get its simply not worth my 20$

Edited by: T'Scain on 03/12/2004 08:30:34 Yeah Drakip, I sent a petition with a DXdiag on the day of deployment, and sent a bug report not long thereafter. No word yet.
At one point Oveur posted a comment in another thread asking us for error logs... so while I'm not sure how to get those, posts like Infineon's seem useful.
It's something much more than lag. Downloading drivers hasn't worked for most mobility users. Nor has d/ling and installing a fresh build. Nor has any single combination of graphics ops. Posting in this thread has lost its generative "metafix" feeling... the game's too unplayable in this state to renew a sub imo.
Sorry for more of the same,
T
Edit: Change to Oveur with the calls for logs.

Yup, same problems..freezing while undocking.
I only have this problem on my Laptop wich is a 2Ghz mobile with 512 Mb and offcourse a ATI 9000 mob.
Imo it dev has something to do with the graphics and the gfs card. Altho i saw that there are peeps with newer video cards then a 9000 i think its related to the rendering ingame. I have read through this thread and i do beleive there should be a way to run the client without lockups. What i'm gonna try is first get the latest ATI catalyst drivers. If they don't work i'll try the modified mob ati drivers. For now i got my client running without lockups for one evening with just putting all graphic options to the lowest. Low detail on planets, sun occluding off, no trail, etc etc and color depth to 16b with z-buffer. Res 1280x786 (widescreen) and i have turned of dithering and stuff. All this makes the game awefull to look at but at least it keeps running. The reason why i want to try the drivers is cause i want better views, i'll let u know what worked and not.
Let's hope there will be a patch for this soon , but as it seems only ATI users have these problems and especially the ones using older types of gfx chipsets. So i wouldn't count on it.

Although nobody seems to care I've gotten more stability on my one eve install which was exhibiting this problem and it was precisely the "sun occluded by ships" setting.
On the install that didn't have this problem I found this line in prefs.ini: sunOcclusion=1
While the install that did have this problem had: sunOcclusion=0
This apparently overrode the setting from the Esc menu. I've changed the setting in the prefs.ini for the install which had the problem and I haven't had a station-exit warp away lockup since.
