Completely agreed. It's always better to have multiple ships to do each mission. I think I've been extremely forthcoming about my mission lineup, and it does in fact include a Golem, CNR, and Tengu. I may train that character up for the Nightmare, but my gunnery skills are pretty bad and I'd like to finish off training all the leadership specs and marketing skills to 5 first.
I mostly use the Tengu for The Score, Recon 2&3, and Buzz Kill when I CBA to run it. For Gone Berserk I normally take the CNR - it's too much of a hassle to get a torp Golem into the middle of their spawn points.

A great ship like the Tengu relegated to PVE mission running makes PVP Joe sad
Tengu isn't about shooting NPCs faster, its about how much balls you got when you fly a 2 billion isk faction fitted cruiser into a PVP gang fight!

if you warp, cancel, and then warp doesn't that put you in pretty good position for the golem?

For certain missions - yeah. I hear they nerfed not warping to 0, but not all the missions have warpins at 0...

You probably picked the least applicable post to quote for that argument, you are free to play however you want, I thought I had made that clear. however don't come to the forums and say random crap and then get offended when you get told you are wrong.

has nothing to do with warping at range. no clue as to how or why it works, but some missions have (had?) 2 different warp in spots, one where you would warp to the first time you pressed warp to mission, and another where you would land if you either were gang warped or warped in again.
rouge slave trader is another example, press warp and you land 30km? from the slave pen, press warp, cancel warp, and then press warp again and you land ~2km from the slave pen.

I have a Mare too, and I like it very much vs. Sanha and Blood - although my gunnery is also far from being good .. with Caldari BS 5 the Mare does nice damage though. And its a nice ship when you go help ppl in their missions which they can tank, but lack gank - you help and dont waste ammo

I've just spent some time flying missions in my golem again. Guess what: the mission time was way better in a tengu.
Why? DPS and Tank and painting is better on the golem... true...
But the tengu just doesnt get freckin jammed that often. Honestly - the time I spent sitting there waiting... reloading... waiting some more... relocking targets... getting jammed again after 1 volley... *YEARGH!*
So, this might actually be something to take a look at: sensorstrength. It helps.

No, it really doesn't. If anything, it was luck of the draw or your target selection with the Tengu. When an NPC decides to jam you, it doesn't matter what you're in or what your sensor strength is - they totally bypass that particular calculation.
This has been directly confirmed by CCP btw.

ANYWAY......
Can we get this thread back on track please!
I've recently come back to EVE after a year break and was looking at the new ships. The Tengu looks a good ship, but I am yet to be convinced it is a ship for PVP, anyone have feedback?
I tend to use a facton fitted Nighthawk for both missions and PVP - no such thing as a specific mission fit, everything should be PVP (as you can tell I low sec mission).
So.....is the Tengu worth it or shall I stick to my NH.
Discuss....

It actually hasn't gotten significantly off track.
Quote: I've recently come back to EVE after a year break and was looking at the new ships. The Tengu looks a good ship, but I am yet to be convinced it is a ship for PVP, anyone have feedback?
I like it for PVP. Good buffer, good mobility, lots of damage... what isn't to like?

Well, a lot of people claim the Tengu is ideal for lowsec mission running since you can't be scanned out... but there's apparently there's a known defect with the sensor strength implants + ECCM combo that makes this (im)possible.
However, if you're just going in to kill the missions and maybe anyone else that comes in, the Tengu is probably the better choice. It's also the significantly more expensive and skillpoint losing choice. I'd probably go with a NH.

Why waste a perfectly good launcher slot with a NOS on your PAssive setup and then on your active where it could actually maybe possible [probably not but maybe] Be better than a Launcher.
Passive Tank on Tengu is nothing where as active could use a Nos??? If you run, You`ll only die tired :) |

Adding to the ode
Day 1 in Tengu. . I tried it on L3 and it was a waste of time and resources. Level 4 missions are silly easy in this sitting in the middle of 10-12 BS's who can't hit you is awesome. At 7m SP now, I can watch TV and pay almost no attention except to TP and fire. Thats with 1 small booster and an amp and 1 Invul II.
I will continue training for better ships and PVP skills, but PVE this is a monster.

Where exactly do you see a launcher slot? 5 Launcher, 1 Turret hardpoint.
I use this nos to maintain some mods when neuted, you could also use a neut against tacklers.

But saw and liang doesnt it make more sense with a passive fit to use a Nuet? But still I`d use a extra Launcher instead.
Its the 140 DPS diff between breaking a active BS tank or not, while the Med Nos wont drain the BS fast enough to make a diff since they will be using a cap booster. Also the 140+=Breaking a tank fast enough to kill the ship before there buddies come.
We all know that 140 dps is expotn greater.
700 DPS vs 850 DPS is killing a Domi or Dying to one or killing 2 frigs fast enough to escape before help arrives.

I think the point for a med neut in PVP is more for tackler defense. I had missed the 'for PVP' part. My eyes glazed at the afterburner and deadspace stuff.

different fits for different tasks. I wasn't going to recommend either. but that is a pretty good explanation for one fit.

Yeah I guess so, Im just used to my HM tengu...There is no tacklers left when I fly that It puts really serious DMg on even Inty`s. I get usually 1/3rd dmg on them so 220 dps usually that kills em fast, when I have my painter on em 300+.
See If I had a ship that had 5 Hams but needed anti frig or anti tackler I would use a 6 launcher HM and get same DPS or more, also get 4-5x the range and have the ability to kite opponets.
Also yeah the AB isnt a true PVP fit, IMO If you run, You`ll only die tired :) |

I know that the Augmented Cap Reservoir give an additional launcher slot, but i chose the Power Core Multipler for a reason.
If i'd take a 6 HML setup, i'd need an officer RCU. Could also go CN HML and take a PDU, but in every case i would lose around 60 DPS. An additional CN HAM would give me 35 DPS, but you'd again need an expensive RCU and implants.
In every way you would need to cut either a BCU or the DC. To remove the DCU lowers the EHP for 30k, but you would increase the DPS, if you get the launchers online.
So why do you not take 6 Launchers? Because i need the additional grid of the core multiplier.
Quote: one of the subsystem combos does get 6 launcher slots.
right, thats why my active fit (and my plexing one) has in fact 6 launchers.
