Currently I am using Cruise Missiles but they are only hitting my target for around 20dmg.. I understand that resistances play a role but it seem a really low amount of dmg for them when I thought they would hit for a lot more. Do I need smaller missles for smaller targets?

Speed, signature radius and resistances play a role, also what type of missiles.

Train missile skills that "sharpen" your attack. Explosion velocity and explosion radius have a massive impact on damage done, in relation to your targets size and speed. Cruise missiles will always struggle to take down a frigate quickly, but training will make a big difference. Go for Guided Missile Precision, and Target Navigation Prediction, as well as Warhead Upgrades. Try using drones (if available) for frigs/destroyers, missiles for cruiser and above.
This may help, it's a general break-down.

Yes. In general, you want to:
Use light missiles and rockets against frigates Use heavy missiles and HAMs against cruisers Use Cruise against battlecruisers and battleships Use torpedoes against battleships
Fury/Rage ammo should be used against the class of ship one size larger, e.g., don't use Fury Heavies against cruisers, use them against BCs and BS.

Edited by: Cromwell Savage on 14/02/2010 14:48:21 You can use lights on frigs/dessie/cruiser (preferrably dessie and below) and heavies for cruiser/battlecruiser (heavies will work on smaller ships IF webbed). For BS, cruise and torps ideally but heavies will do if need be. Torps will also do a number on cruisers and especially battlecruisers if their speed is kept low. Personally, not completely sold on HAM's yet, but you'd fit those for closer range/higher DPS fights against same sized ships as heavies.
Personally, I absolutely hate T2 missiles - total crap. Not launchers, just the missiles. I use faction missiles for PvP - have the same range of T1 (T2 has shorter flight time burn) and hit almost just as hard as T2 but without the drawbacks (i.e. sig radius increase).
Not-so-Ninja edit - rockets are bleh as well. Better than nothing I guess but I use them only when I'm fitting for something more important that damage dealing, i.e. fast tackle for a fleet where I have the DPS in support... |
