WALL-E is a great movie, yes I am being serious.
How about the Alien films with Sigourney Weaver, should get bonus points with your girlfriend due to a woman being the main character as well.

Of course, while men have a huge variety of interests and tastes in film genres, we can quite happily lump all women into one big group that enjoys certain films.
How the hell should we know what your girlfriend is interested in? ____________________

think about movies that aren't exclusively about action, or horror...
the man from earth - slight similarities to K-Pax, but less hokeypokey. the last starfighter \ starman - these two might be a bit dated by now? Star Wars? Star Trek? Mad Max? - going against my own recommendation here Waterworld? - though I doubt YOU want to see that one
I don't think you should even try 2001 and 2010... they may be iconic, but if you're not really into the genre, they are DEAD BORING.

Ratatouille is a sweet cartoon. A cartoon about a rat that can cook. I don't normally like pixar like cartoons but i thought Ratatouille was cute. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. ~Saint |

Edited by: Trustworthy Joe on 14/02/2010 21:56:44 Try Gattaca. Outstanding movie, and the sci-fi is there for those who want it, while actually having a sensible plotline.
besides, its worked for me before.
Failing that, 12 monkeys was also good, very funny, and starred Brad Pitt in one of the best roles hes played of all time. Plus, its an intelligent Bruce Willis movie, what more can you ask?

she could just be completely uninterested in sci-fi... I wouldn't classify superman and spiderman as sci-fi, but the others are definitely sci-fi. And they're fairly representative of the mainstream of the genre...
If she likes horror, I would go with Aliens like someone else said, star wars is always a good choice (the originals were more palatable) As for star trek, if you try it, try it with the most recent movie, or you might really put her off. _________________________________________________________________

Edited by: Ella C''Tronix on 15/02/2010 00:41:08 Most of the movies mentioned are not science fiction.
some character has some technological gadget or a movie takes place in space... doesn't make it a science fiction piece.
Although whoever mentioned Gattica - i'd say that's a movie that anyone could watch and enjoy.

Sounds like she is not much into sci-fi theme unless it is animated. Avatar was sort of cartoonish deal and WALL-E I have never watched but you say it is animation also. So what I would recommend you do is find more animation scifi movies. Try anime if she doesn't mind, there are a lot of these out that have scifi themes.
But you know if she doesn't like movies/series like 5th Element, Serenity, Star Wars or Star Trek stuff, BG, Alien series, Farscape, and none of the oldie scifi stuff like Enemy Miine then she is simply not a scifi fan after all and you'll just have to embrace that fact.

None of those are great movies to be fair.
I mean some are OK but none are so good that I couldn't imagine someone not liking them. Especially not 5th element.
What non-sci fi movies does she like? Why didn't she like those?

Gilmore Girls, there's science fiction for you, from a mans perspective into that of a woman. Witty and fast dialogue from pretty women, without the neurotics. I mean that's gotta be at least a lightyear away from the realm of reality.

First off im not trying to force anything, just trying to find a scifi movie because, we had a talk about movies, and i think she dosent like it, beacause she desided not to like the genre, even before watching anything. if that makes any sense. And i couldnt think of anything, why i asked here.
Movies she likes from top of my head is: Requiem for a Dream The Shawshank Redemption Groundhog Day Twilight Good will Hunting
Im gona get some of those movies thats mentioned here, and see if its something.
Thanks.

Definitely go for Gattaca, it's an excellent tool for converting people who don't like sci-fi, especially women, because they often don't realise it's sci-fi until too late, and it has Jude Law in it.
After that, try Dark City; it features telekinesis quite prominently, but doesn't have "action" scenes until near the end, and plays out as an entertaining noir detective story, with substantial undertones regarding the nature of love and memory. Also has a relatively well known cast.
Then, once you've suckered her in, hit her with Moon. This is pure, traditional, big concept sci-fi, but sell it to her on the basis of Sam Rockwell's frankly astounding performance as a man slowly going mad as he discovers the truth about his existence, and who's main motivator is to return to his wife and child on Earth.
If she is one of those people who decided to dislike sci-fi on the sole basis that it is sci-fi, it's not about cramming "good" sci-fi movies down her throat and shouting "SEE, THESE ARE GOOD, LIKE THEM!". It's about finding sci-fi movies which stand on their own as excellent stories with a strong human element, and making sure those are the elements you focus on when you discuss the films with her.
The stories above, for example, are from a sci-fi perspective about; the implications of genetic manipulation at birth for society, telekinetic super-beings trying to understand the nature of the soul and, the ethics of cloning. But if those are concepts she's not interested in, they all have other threads of plot and idea to follow. _____________________________________________ Of Riches and Slaves - Adventures of an Amarrian Noble |

Gattica is a good suggestion and from her preferences Moon might be a worthwhile suggestion.
Get the final cut of Blade runner, if she doesn't like it, then give up.
other things that come to mind are Pitch Black Minority Report
not exactly science fiction Being John Malkovich Vanilla Sky
Also finding out why she did not like the Matrix would be interesting.
