I wish they could implement some eve ships in dust though...in every fps the sky is pretty boring. why not have a battleships or sth cover it? ------ I'm just a lonely pirate on my way to ascension |

and still people go: "caps should be bigger". :) it just shows people have no sense of scale. which probably includes some CCP, as well.

To give you a real idea of the size of that hangar, an Abaddon is about 1000m long and the hangar is probably that same length tall and nearly double the depth. That's a mile and a half long hangar bay. Holy crap. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

This is also probably why we were told we'd never get to see our ships in the hangar while walking around in Incarna. Just modeling them at full size with all the detail would be a monumental task. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

The problem would be one of synergy: a Titan-sized ship crashed on a planet's surface is going to be visible from space. Eve players would need to be able to see it too.

Shouldn't be too difficult to drop a Titan LCO on a planet at the proper position. --------

That is big. But it's relatively modest in terms of how capital ships are usually portrayed in contemporary sci-fi. For instance, the Executor, Darth Vader's command ship, is over 19 kilometers in length and sports over 5,000 weapon turrets, a huge array of planetary bombardment weapons, and two full wings of fighters. The flagship of Warmaster Horus is given as over 15 kilometers in length, with the new Abyss class being considerably larger and more heavily armed.
An EVE titan is just a baby in comparison and sports a ridiculously low number of weapons for a ship supposed to be so large and fearsome. For gameplay reasons, of course.

Edited by: Demolishar on 18/02/2010 12:33:27 See that silvery bit on the front of the oval raised bit at the center? That's the front window... and the room behind it would be slightly smaller/narrower than the bridge of the Enterprise in star trek. That's my personal take on scale and to hell with the facts.

taken we are given CIVILLIAN titans, which are roughly 1/3 of a standard-issue titan (used by empires fleets)
The Imperial Issue Avatar is almost 40km long. The jovian titans...well,one of them was built around a moon.

according to EVE Ship chart, titans are about the size of ships you mentioned. as for number of turrets, it's game mechanic reasons. i doubt any game with that Warhammer ship allows to fire each of those turrets.

That was a rather awesome video, it's great to see the scale in a more mundane setting.
Would love to see interiors, high res textures on those ships, mmmmm.

Originally by: Jagga Spikes btw, i really don't get why would anyone bother building ships of that size. if history shows us anything, weapons scale in power, not size. bigger ships are simply bigger targets.
Because in reality such super weapons would likely provide capabilities simply not available to smaller vessels. Power projection being the foremost reason.
Unbound by the constraints of gameplay and "fairness" considerations, such a huge vessel would obviously be able to sport extreme long range sensor systems, powerful targeting arrays, and electronic jamming systems far in excess of what any smaller ship could ever hope to field. Too, the raw power of its power plant might enable a ship of this size to project shields and other defensive systems that would render it all but impenetrable to the weapons fielded by smaller ships. And such a ship would be especially well suited to forays into deep space, as it carries its own ground assault component and multiple wings of cruiser/fighter class ships for close defense.
It isn't really practical to simulate all this in EVE because of gameplay considerations. A ship like the Executor would be capable of standing toe to toe against the combined fleet of one of EVE's major alliances with a decent chance of success. CCP is obviously afraid such ships would be used as solo pwnmobils instead of alliance power projection tools engineered for 0.0 warfare. And that's a valid concern, as that's probably exactly what would happen.
Still... it would be awesome to see a ship of that size, boasting that kind of firepower, in EVE. Make them cost a trillion ISK or more, which would put them out of reach of any pirate or smaller alliance. And it would be interesting to see which alliance would actually have the fortitude to risk such a ship in battle.
