Was looking at the nightmare for some pewpew. I have less experience with shield tanked boats though, so having issues getting a fit i'm happy with. I generally like flying with at least 1 heavy neut to avoid the problem of pesky smaller ships. Any ideas on this fit?
Tempted to just use a baalghorn instead though, because cap is easier with an armor buffer, even if the DPS is a lot less.

I'd use a mix of 5 mediums and 5 lights instead of 3x Ogres, maybe even warriors and ec-600's. I don't fly active shield boats so I can't comment on your tank, however your DPS is solid. Look into losing one of the heat sinks and swapping to a tracking enhancer, you shouldn't lose much dps at all but the added range and tracking should come in handy. Could also lose that heat sink and replace it with the lowslot ECCM. ________

- use tech 2 rigs, they rn't that expensive considering your fit.
switching HS to TE
Change drones to 5 med, 5 light,
possibly switch a Neut to a Nos,

And this was asking for advice. If it was an armour boat i wouldn't have to ask, but i don't pretend to know much about shield boats yet.
I played with Nos in EFT, problem is that it doesn't work as well in reality, from personal experience. Anyone actually flown an active NM in pvp with advice? xD
Drones are good though, might be better to use 2 x ogre 2 x hammerhead and a hobgoblin, or 1 flight of med/light drones for frigates.

Hmm, I would go with one less heat sink and put a tracking enhancer instead. Otherwise looks like a very nice fit!

Nightmare and Bhaal are two different beasts...
Nightmare can be a solo boat or at least small gang boat. Bhaal shines with 3-5 m8's along since the dps is less and it's more.. specific in it's application.
I PVP alot in both:
Your NM fit is ok... unless you are doing some 0.0 camp diving though the Nightmare really doesn't need the MWD and it hurts your cap (unless you run a Gist-X MWD then no worries) but there are better things to put in that slot. You have lasers and can hit out to 60 km no prob with proper skills. Which you better have for this ship since you are a "Ooooo shiny faction ship" = blob and hot drop magnet..
I generally put either another Boost Amp or another Heavy Cap Booster there... but again depending on what you are looking to do maybe an ECCM. also the 2 HVY 2 MED 1 Light is a good way to go on drones or 5 Med 5 Light if you expect annoying lil stuff.
I would lose 1 Neut for a NOS.. again this puppy lives (and Dies) on Cap and it eats cap like a 500 Pound man at an all you can eat buffet
I use diff rigs but have a different situation then you prolly of the safeguards are a better choice.

Good advice. This would be for highsec wars or small lowsec pvp, (Not in an area where hotdoping ever happens.)
I don't like missing an MWD in PvP, but then again I'm used to flying blaster boats. Also you are right about the cap issues, this thing is gonna munch though its cap boosters in no time xD

Something I thought about a couple of years ago when a former CEO asked me what we should do with a big pile of isk he wasn't going to use. I thought I had come up with a fit with two shield transporters, but meh. These things eat cap boosters like they're my dad eating candy corn so it might be a good idea to have an industrial or two with 800s shadow you. The idea was that we'd all buy our own nightmare, and if/when it blew up he's give us another to do with as we pleased. The plan was RR nightmares(i thought i had found a fit with 2 transporters) and recons for tackle. It would have been GLORIOUS.

Hammerhead II x5
Isn't the exact fit that I came up with, but it'll give you the general idea.

I hear you about the MWD and Blaster Boats Have 600+ Kills in a Mega and approaching 100 in the Vindicator so yeah they NEED a MWD (Gist X on the Vindy FTW).
Also use the Faction Heavy Booster or Officer if you can swing them and run Navy 800 charges... you get right around 32 or 33 using a Med Secure Container in your hold... keeps you in boosters pretty well

Just dont forget hg crytals, blue pill and boosting tengu in ss /3x siege, 1x skirmish - interdiction maneuvers, if you are rich enough even 1 sensor integrity/. Also faction web can be good if you dont need mwd. Also - fraps so we can all see how it pops.

Since tengu alt doesnt need any attention /unprobeable/, feel free to use another falcon/logi alt.

The New bhaal is a beast for solo too, its 'damage is less' than a nightmare, a whole 25% less which is as much as an apoc...
with one or two heatsinks the bhaal does enough damage to kill any cap reliant ship in very short time, buffers may be a slight problem (HG slaved megas etc).
I think id be more inclined to use a bhaal solo than a nightmare, howeve rthe nightmare is cheap as heck right now so that might swing it for me, but make no mistake the bhaal can hold its own solo.

If you dont know much about shield boats, perhaps you shouldn't go PvPing in a faction BS with faction/deadspace fittings that require shield tanking.
Dont get me wrong, its your isk and you can use it as you like. If you live, more power to ya and if you die I'll laugh. But the best advice I could give about fitting a ship like that is: hold off flying it until you have some more experience with shield tanking. Do not try to pwn with the ship. You are only pwning yourself. Instead, realise that there is no ship, there is only you, pwning. |

I'm not stupid enough to get in a new type of ship, and then think im experienced enough to go pewpew with it. ofc i will be trying other laser boats and shield boats before taking it for a spin.

Man Im surprised no one has said this yet. Even though he's a jerk from what I hear, Nightmare PVP and DHB-WildCat are one in the same.
You might want to look him up.

Some thoughts on your setup
1. Consider T2 versions of your current rigs, especially the CDCS Rigs, they are great value considering the over all cost of your current setup.
2. Faction tracking enhancer vs 4th HS - more for the optimal range bonus than extra tracking, but that additional tracking compliments the nightmares tracking bonuses very nicely and in my opinion outweighs the minimal dps gain from a 4th HS
3. Gist MWD's have fallen a lot in price over the last few months
