Hey, at least this means I'm guaranteed to wake up for work on time in the morning, which is a definite plus.
(And yeah, if one of the server nodes dies at the wrong point while updating the DB, that's going to be a pretty-much-unpredictable and terminal event. It was quite funny watching the game go down in pieces, presumably when an already locked part of the DB tried to interact with a part that was still working. Which would make sense of why the chat still worked.)

Originally by: Rovo Has CCP considered using something to forecast and possibly prevent issues like this? I noticed something happening with my BSM software monitoring my assets before this happened.. CCP Why not implement this for your self? Could help you prevent issues like this in the future..
I use FireScope to monitor the eve servers (API), my network connections, and EVE-Central Market data in near real time. (I use there API to update a local database and then use a JDBC connection to it to run real-time data analysis.)
If I can do this from a user perspective, I am sure you can do something similar from the inside with a greater degree of accuracy and possible keep this from happening.
If you have more questions you have my contact info.

While we're waiting, you might like to take a look at the sneak peek of planetary stuff in the next expansion. The bottom line is that I have found these annoying signatures are actually quite funny. |

Originally by: CCP Fallout We are currently investigating issues with Tranquility. Stay tuned for more information.
Update: We believe the issue to be related to the SQL database and a restarting the cluster. P.S. SQL jokes are as passe as BECAUSE OF FALCON jokes ;)
Update #2: We are in the process of restarting the cluster, the hamsters, and other cuddly things. TQ should return to service shortly.
Man, using PostgresQL or Oracle or DB2 would certainly save you the headaches you have with MS SQLServer. It's not a joke and it's not passT. The london stock exchange didn't switch away from a MS SQLServer/.Net trading solution to an Open Source solution because they didn't like MS. They did it because the MS stuff was too slow and too unreliable.

Exactly.
Originally by: scorpius4000
How do you know which database they use? and anyways, SQL is a real DB standard...
"SQL is a real DB standard"... dude, go back to school. Go read some books. Something to make you evolve.
You're new here. What CCP uses... is known. So, you sir, have just shown the EVE world the extents of your ignorance.
Now, go lick eve-search, get educated, gain some IQ, instead of brown-nosing crappy CCP and MSSQL, hmm k?

You mean to say you were paying attention on Vent? Oh wow - first this, then CCP prioritise server stability over new models and planet stufffs?
