I am just curious but is there really a plot reason why pirate factions do not have capital ships at their disposal? I mean the players have been building them since their inception, and I am fairly certain the pirate factions have gotten their hands on at least BPCs.
Is there some fluff regarding the pirates not having capital ships?

Normally I'd reason that pirates favour smaller more mobile ships for their raids.... however, the pirate factions in the game are so large and powerful that they have their own territories and stations. You'd think they need captital ships as well... hmmm.
I think it's one of those things that never had enough priority for the developers. It's too awesome an idea to never implement, and I'm sure we'll see them during some expansion in the future.

Edited by: Mithfindel on 01/03/2010 21:00:11 Correct. Pirate factions have access to the "parent" faction's capital ship selection - well, if "civilians" (players) do, then certainly the pirates. Not every pirate ships is a "unique" ship. (Exception: This far I have not seen Sanshas flying "standard" hulls. I think I've heard of a Sansha Revelation, though I am not sure.) Lots of the pirates are in-character assumed to be defectors from the parent faction, except for the space zombies (Sansha's Nation, they implant their prisoners with mind control implants). Dreadnoughts at least have been killed by players back when there were ingame events. Back in the launch, they did not have the capability to build supercaps, but we may assume they do now. (There was an event where the Serpentis stole a Soltuer-class titan from the Gallente Federation - the Soltuer was a predecessor of the Erebus, never available for the players except the Armageddon Day of the beta.)
If you want to spin why you don't see pirate capitals is that they're hidden in their outposts. They don't usually have a reason to use them - since their territory is rather safe (sure, they lose loads of ships to capsuleers, even if we calibrate to remove the effect of grind to "realistic" levels, but they can be assumed to prey on lots of civilians, in turn). The Angel Cartel, however, seems to have at times some territorial interests, and might use theirs. Also, the Thukker Tribe was part of the force that attacked Amarr Empire, together with defected or stolen Republic Fleet ships. The Thukkers have at least two Ragnaroks with loads of other capital ships(, even after Jamyl Sarum blew up one-third of their invading fleet over her homeworld in Sarum Prime).

there was an event back in the day when Lotka Volterra Alive.. we were partied with angel cartel agaisnt serpents.. and "Devs" was using Minmatar Dreads/Naglfar not custom angel things.. well u can say our game designers pretty lazy and they didnt make a sub texture for cartels or modified dreads etc..in the story they probably exist but stays in border of "imagination" like amarr's vast ship yards/systems.. (at Jarums Corronation video there was thousands of ship atleast 40-50 Avatar class Titan etc.. wish they keep making those kind videos.. for "news" purposes... ) (and btw that serpentis titan attacked by shinra(LV exec corp) p: if i'm not mistaken.. (did it blew or not cant remember..)
