SO here is my problem, i have a 3 mil sp char that is amarr born and im wanting him to get in a cap and right now im pretty set on getting him straight into a Rev. If i remap itll take me 4 and a half months which i think is pretty good for a super nub char. where im stuck is my 15mil sp main, which i would like to get in a carrier, he already has 4mil sp in drones and seems the right way to go. Hes totaly gallente spec and from what i hear the thanny sucks, so should i stick with the thanny and just keep moving to a nyx or should i use a diff races carrier?

I've got 64M SP and I'll need more than 4.5 months to be able to fly cap ships...

theese are goipng to be strictly for POS bashing in our low sec systems, i guess i should have specified that. because we are in the process of removing rival POS's in our system and the amarr pilot was just get there and then back up, and i wasnt sure on my 15mil char wether or not i wanted to train for a cap or not, which more than likely ill continue working on power housing my t2 cruisers. but either way what would be the race of carriers should you go for atm

I'm not sure why you would think the Gallente carrier sucks , but I'm sure that a Gallente drone platform is the best platform in the game . And the Nyx is the coolest looking mom ever !
If you dont go Gallente , I'd match the Amarr , so that both your pilots can hop in any of your ships.

I'm not a capital expert, but this is what I've discovered:
Dreadnoughts: * Amarr: best, most EHP. * Gallente: good * Minmatar: okay - split weapons system. * Caldari: unpopular, but potentially the highest DPS now.
Carriers: * Gallente: best - biggest drone bay * Amarr: great - lots of armor and best armor rep * Minmatar: good - armor or shield rep. * Caldari: niche - cap stable, even when triaged, with 2x capital shield reps.
Supercarriers: * There are more than just Gallente ones? * Caldari also common, probably due to only the sheer number of old Caldari Achura pilots.
Titans: * All good, since they can all one-shot most other capitals.
EDIT: Reformatted.

I have had a Moros and a Thanatos. I think im right about on the 40m SP mark, and still am working on even more skills. It just doesn't end!
The Thanatos is great, and one of the most popular carriers out there. note, you will play Spin the Ship alot with it. A Nyx is in the neighborhood of 20 or so billion isk if you didn't know, and is going to take a lot longer then "3-4" months for any decent cap pilot.
You need to also skill up all of your other important skills and support skills. Your jump skills. The bare minimum of skills to get in a carrier will get you dead. The one really awesome thing about my Thanatos (Or any carrier for that matter), is that I can move my whole operation to anywhere in the EvE universe. A seperate account with 3 cyno alts on it does wonders.

Edited by: Jotobar on 07/03/2010 12:34:47 Edited by: Jotobar on 07/03/2010 12:34:04 There's nothing wrong with having an cap ship alt, in fact it's to be prefered. In this case you only got 3mil out of which a fair chunk should be learning skills. In that case it seems very obvious you should ignore what other skills he's got and pick out the path you most prefer and go for that. It will obviously take a while, at this stage if I wanted a new cap pilot myself I'd probably check out the character bazar instead of train up a new one from 3mil.

18 mil sp on my alt, 3 months of being a very decent thanny pilot (all t2 drones, all caps skills at IV, triage)

When training for capital ships, don't aim straight for motherships. Get a mothership when you're certain you want to sacrifice your cap-alt to a flying coffin. This can also be read as: Don't put your main in a mothership, unless you want a different main.
For racial ships, Amarr is sort of the best right now. This however might be different by the time you get to your capital ships. I'd just go for the Thanatos on your main, if you like the thanatos. Gallente and Amarr have quite some overlap (Gunnery, armor tanking), so it won't take you too much time to crossover from Gallente Capital ships to Amarr Capital ships.

Well if I remember right Caldari has bounses for Shield repping and energy making them great for Pos Repping. Minnie has the bonus for Shield rep ammount, also making them good for Pos Repping.
Amarr and Gallente have more, combat bonuses. Gallente being damage and Amarr being Resistances. Given most fleets are Armor buffered these days, the armor rep ranges on the two make them ideal, with minnie being maybe being #3 in that list, its more of a logistical carrier.
If you want to be logistics, Minnie or Caldari, combat, Amarr or Gallente.
Thats if I remember right. I just have a thanatos and know it just kills things. XD

Honestly though, it wouldn't hurt to read the descriptions of the ships ingame before starting to ask questions.

Or better, learn to play first as I think you have the impression all cap ship pilots have no support skills at all and only the required skills at bare minimum levels. You yourself are aiming for just that at the moment --- Braaaiiinnnsssssssssss |

wow, ya dont think i would include the guns skills in my skill que. i guess this is what i get for posting on the forms and as for Jotto or what ever the hell your name is I figures id actually get some feedback from actual cap pilots and yes i did read teh damn in game description but im afraid it doesnt give me multiple opinions on the ship after being flown in combat. someone omg close this topic before i get more poeple taht havent flown caps to voice thier opinion. The few post from people that did post based on EXPERIENCE were very helpful. kthxbye.

I fly a dread regulary, this is an alt since no big alliances except goons like when you spam crap on the forums.
When you start asking questions like "is a raven shield tanked?" I just think it's good for the readers to ask themself why they bother answering.
to sum up a couple of unrelated points: you're lazy, you shouldn't get a dread, the revelation like all big amarr ships is a pretty good choice, if you can live with 41km range a torp phoenix currently has over twice the dps on towers and more than the others on other dreads and you have the option of cruise aswell. The main flaw of the phoenix is that it's caldari so the others will laugh at you.
