When dreads are the new battleship. When the average player is so skilled they need to increase the rookie learning bonus to x4 till 10mil SP. When they make everything minable and hulk pilots are killing people with ship harvester II's. When a few alliances manage to become massive without falling apart. When we STILL can't walk in stations. Not that I'm really looking forward to that feature.

I disagree. The mechanics of the game (largely) sound, and I don't really see what an 'Eve Online II' would do to upgrade the experience. We'd still be in ships... with floaty rocks... space stations... warp gates and planets. I mean, I guess you could make the planets solid and the ships look a little nicer, but the constant expansions have really taken care of the latter, and the former seems superfluous to me.
When I first started playing Tranquility's max population was like 14k, and I know people who played when it was far below that. Honestly, in a down economy, EVE is actually performing quite well. Unlike games like WoW, where certain locations become 'stale' after a while and need to be supplanted by new regions, EVE's space just grows laterally - and the more 'settled' parts are familiar but still highly-trafficked.
So, yeah, I just don't see any reason for EVE to die. It doesn't compete for market share with the big boys, it doesn't require a major overhaul, and it seems to be growing.
The only think I'd guess is that maybe we'd see another, younger server launched? That would make a lot of sense to me, and I think would really boost interest in a lot of people who have quit the game previously returning to start fresh. The skill gap is really oppressive, and gets moreso by the day.

Yes, Eve will still be dying.
It doesn't matter that Eve runs on a supercluster that makes top scientists around the world hang their little heads in a pout - all that cash and a freaking games company has better machinery.
It doesn't matter that thousands of people log in, bash each other senseless for a gag, and that all head into the same system to smack each other (or gloat).
In five years when minor population centres - like Manchester or Bombay - will be able to enter Jita, Eve will still be dying. When the populations of minor nations will compete for 0.0 stations, shooting them and each other, Eve will still be dying.
So, get in practice in now.
Fix the damn lag!
Eve will still be dying, in five years time. It always is. Even if it grows.

EVE could possibly be here in 50 years. The reasons are that EVE has features others do not:
1. No need to pump out new content to replace the old. Most MMORPG's have to run to stay still which is very expensive and gets to a point where the game becomes non viable.
2. It is not owned by a large corporate entity only interested in quantity and 'everyone is smiling and a winner' marketing influence, so it refuses to dumb down to get short term income before it dies off.
3. It appeals to players who like a challenging game. Most games avoid that now and appeal only to the gear collectors and those who want an ultra casual game. So it has a good chunk of the market who are likely to stay loyal. This also allows it to bring out far more varied content.
4. In theory it can expand to include all elements of the universe which each part being completely different. It's not tied to a few simple game mechanics or concepts.
5. Once a player experiences the concept that loss has meaning they either hate it and leave (usually in the first few weeks) or realise how much is adds to the game experience. This makes other games hard to play when this element is missing.
6. I do not see any other game successfully copying EVE. They would not achieve the critical mass needed to make it viable or even to have a chance to get development cash. so there is unlikely to be any real competition.
I see EVE as more of a complete Universe game at it's early stages rather than a game regurgitating the same tired old formulae which will go out of fashion sooner or later.

If you read the blog on Pie... I mean PI... You'd know that they actually plan to do this rather than might end up doing this.
I believe the vision of EVE is really to be a Universe. You have EVE Online, which may be renamed though it's unlikely, that forms the starting point, we will have Dust xxx (Can't remember if it's 514 or something else), Incarna which may be expened though as far as I'm concerned it's comming out in 2070. They probably will think of other things to add as well when possible. ______________________________

They said this 5 years ago too... Is it true? Nope? Hmm.
Originally by: Erymion Ardoi When the average player is so skilled they need to increase the rookie learning bonus to x4 till 10mil SP.
Again, said this 5 years ago. People have proved, time and time again. Raw SPs means nothing. It just means older players have more options, not necessarily are better players.
Originally by: Erymion Ardoi When they make everything minable and hulk pilots are killing people with ship harvester II's.
... Troll much?
Originally by: Erymion Ardoi When a few alliances manage to become massive without falling apart.
Yep, they said that too. And look where we are now? Sorry, Alliances aren't like US Banks, they can be too big to fail.
Originally by: Erymion Ardoi When we STILL can't walk in stations. Not that I'm really looking forward to that feature.
This I agree with you on. But uh, do we need it? Really? I mean come on, do we really need mindless eye candy that adds nothing to the core of the game? Ok its a nice idea, but ultimately, a non-issue for the game. We don't need it. Personally i'd rather have atmospheric flight/combat. That looks much more interesting.
Meh. Eve will still be here. I'll still be here. Thats where Eve will be in 5 years. -----------------------------------

I remember the movie "Sneakers".........there's a scene in the movie that blew my mind........these two dudes were sitting on one like it was FURNITURE.
Well, to be fair, it did LOOK like furniture a bit....they designed it that way on purpose, kept the liquid nitro cooling tubes shorter that way.........
Every home should have a new CX-1.
Get to that point, and Proteus IV won't be far behind.............

You forgot one thing. The subscription time of the average Eve account is 7 months. Therefore this scenario won't happen, ever.
