No problem - but keep in mind, share reservations are only official once the isk is received :) ----------------

Well since 2 days ago it said 2 days remaining it should close tonight at 00:00 EVE.
What will be interesting is if any of you who put money into this ever hears from him again.

Actually, the "two weeks from date of this post" stated in OP means the bond closed on Wednesday 31st March. But lets be realistic here, Lui could offer no updates or hourly updates and neither would actually affect the security of the investment, only the perceived security. Bets have been placed and now over the next 90 days we roll the dice like with any investment.

I know this does not really mean anything, but according to Lui Kai's eve sheet, s/he is not currently training any skills. I know there was one in queue at the beginning of last week (can remember which) and I think it ended on Wednesday, nothing in the works now.
Again, I know it does not mean a whole lot but I am trying to be positive about the silence. I hope all is well with Lui Kai.

There's a difference between gambling at the blackjack table and playing russion roulette with someone who has 5 chambers out of 6 loaded.

Edited by: Lui Kai on 07/04/2010 02:38:58 Sorry for the blank time - I had some family business that pulled me away for the last week, which kept me from closing this up properly (and, consequently, lowered the amount I raised).
To save time on speculations - yep, it's a scam.
No, it wasn't to prove any point. MD never learns a lesson the right way around.
Yes, my reasons for avoiding an audit were exactly what I said they were. An audit probably would have quintupled the amount I could have collected. I just don't really understand the motivations behind most roleplay, and thus don't trust same motivations. No insult to the auditors themselves - I just don't "get it" so I don't like/trust it.
No, none of the investors were alts, and no private in-game investments were taken. The above numbers are entirely correct - Claire was the only person really hardcore screwed (though others were screwed also on smaller scales).
As to why? Lui was always my highsec money earning and forum posting alt. Has been since his creation. Since I recently hit a financial goal, I decided to close up this account and let him idle away. I figured I may as well grab a bit on my way out. Nothing more complicated than that - I wanted money, and saw a dishonest but easy chance to get some.
I won't be replying further, or posting further. I'll only be logging in Lui to allow him to train while his PLEXed time lasts before the account shuts down. To save people bothering with wardecs - he's docked in Jita, won't be undocking before that expiry, and has no assets in space. The alts anyone can link to me are Nisama Li, and Alexandria Li. Nisama and Alexandria are both on the Lui account, and thus will be going inactive as well, shortly. Nobody in game was "in on it," though there were one or two people I was tempted to tell, just because I knew they'd enjoy the show, but I didn't.
Later, taters. ----------------

This is typically where some sort of condemnation goes. Meh, you had an uncollateralized offering and got investment, and then you stole the money. Nothing new, nothing revolutionary, nothing particularly unexpected.
Pity you chose to scam instead of staying around here as a denizen of MD, though. Your posts weren't half bad.

and the first "boo hoo, you are nothing special" post comes in. you people are in need of a serious reality check. do you think that we care about your QQ posts? no. this guy is not looking for fame... he did it for the isk, and said so in his post that you quoted. telling him he's no different is not going to affect him in the slightest way, as is the same for me.
I think the best thing you guys can do is pay a visit to this thread, and discuss how to prevent future scams. Two scams in two days is quite laughable for your "you're a scammer protection" that supposedly works. It doesn't, so pay a visit to the thread I linked and get to brainstormin'

Most definitely. Identifying and pursuing enemies of the state will earn you many MD Rep Points. Be sure to respond to obvious flamebait with lengthy and elaborate responses where you "show them good".
And remember, I or any other Sanctioned WVMDC Representative are always available for processing Personal Rep Point Requests for the modest fee of 100m. It's always smart to keep up with your Rep Score so you can launch your bond offering asap.

Meh, was always a gamble; it's a pain in the proverbial for sure but I won't lose too much sleep on it. Out of pure curiosity, appealing to your egocentricity - what lesson are you attempting to teach? Never rely on "names" obviously, but that one's been known for a long time, never rely on folks who spit their dummy out the moment people start asking questions is another one that's obvious but you managed to avoid that one. Audits would have identified this as high risk (which investors already knew from the off), although may have identified some other accounts to which you'll be transferring your ill gotten gains so I suppose that's a reasonably fair one. Collateral is pretty much the closest one can come to a guarantee and again, that's kinda known already.
I'm guessing from your previous posting that your "lesson" is that there is no need for secondary markets and that we should all stop. But then there's no actual need for firing little space pixels at other space pixels for entertainment either. And trying to prove something's broken by breaking it some more, well I guess I just don't get that one.
Oh well, naff all I can do about it now.

The lesson he's trying to teach is irrelevant. In RL finance the same happens since centuries but hey, without dumb sheep how would the wolves live?
It's almost a Darwinian and Lombrosian feature: fat and dumb preys exist for the others to lazily prey upon.
The former never learn, the latter rarely need to refine their techniques due to that.
This is the real lesson that no one will learn: you can put all of the paperwork, all of the certificate, all of the MD eliteness, all of the rating "agencies", all of the auditors in the universe, but still the dumb sheep WILL fall to any mediocre wolf. And even more, to any fox.

You yourself make the case for audits. A good audit may have increased your taking (although I doubt it would have quintupled it) but at the least it would have involved a great deal more work on your behalf, insulating your various alts. At best a good auditor would have been able to uncover most of your characters which would then have been at some risk. It would also have confirmed whether or not there was actually a viable business plan. Not sure what role-playing has to do with any of this. Your scam just serves as a further warning against un-audited investments.

I'd like to thank Lui for being a very lazy scammer and not maximizing his take.
If he had, at any point, either contacted me or placed my name within a reservation list, I probably would have sent him my ISK.
His failure to acknowledge potential investors struck a sour note with me and so I decided to wait and see what would happen.
Let this be a lesson to future scammers. A little love goes a long way.

You didn't "work with me". IMO you refunded my isk hoping I would call off the dogs on you. Not happening. I only put 1bil into your ipo because it was 'found money' that I didn't care about anyway. I didn't defend you any more than I've defended anyone else constantly being accused of scamming.
To be honest I suspect you never really intended to scam originally but I was fairly sure you were going to burn out and your ipo would fail because of it. I did a 'Hail Mary' on it anyway just in case it actually panned out. If it had... I'd have doubled my investment in 6 months, if not... no big loss. The fact that you gave me back my isk was just a nice bonus. I used some of it to pay back folks I know in game who got hurt by your silliness.
I actually have more respect for lui than I do you. He went out from the start to scam. In fact he really didn't even try to hide it. You, on the other hand, just couldn't hack it in MD so threw a tantrum and tried to make it sound like it was your grand scheme all along. It wasn't, you know it and all of us know it. You're just a pathetic excuse for a forum troll who has delusions of grandeur.
