Hi there
Just running a setup past the forums before I spend some money. I need a good passive tanker as I run missions while studying Chinese, and have a bad internet connection in China - so I need a ship that can easily tank lvl4s completely passive while actually having the DPS to finish the mission. Time efficiency running the mission is not so important as I will also be doing other things, but I will not be AFK.
How about this setup?
CRUISE LAUNCHER 2 X4 DRONE LINK AUGMENTOR TRACTOR BEAM
THUKKER LARGE SHIELD EXTENDER X3 X-TYPE RESISTANCE AMPLIFIER X4 (either all-round or double-stacked rat specific)
SHIELD POWER RELAY X6
CORE DEFENCE FIELD PURGER X3
All of my skills for the ship and the weapons are either perfect or not far off - I plan on using a range of rat-specific drones to do DPS and the cruise launchers for support/cruiser popping. Is this a good setup? Not sure of the numbers that it will tank/DPS etc but I think that would manage to tank most lvl4s pretty easily. If you could change the setup, how would you change it? Remember, it must be cap stable or completely passive (preferably the latter) so invul fields are kinda out.

You don't want a Snake. You need a dual lar domi.

I thought about a domi, but I figured against it because my ego demands that after playing the game for 3 years I should be running a pimpy pirate/T2 battleship in missions.

Really, afk? You don't need bcu's then. Active tank would be best. So, you can fit 3x odtl.

Pure passive:
4x CN cruise 2x Drone Link Augmentors
2x Large shield extenders 2x Pithum A-type Magnetic scattering amplifier (mission specific) Pithum A-type Heat dissipation amplifier (mission specific) Shield recharger II Omnidirecitonal tracking link
6x Shield power relay II
2x Core defence field purger II Sentry damage augmentor
5x Garde II 5x Warden II 5x Ogre II 5x Hobgoblin II
At my current skill:(EFT figures)
987 uniform damage rating 22680 Shield 78.9/69.2/52/60 164.1 sec recharge 345.49 hp/s peak self recharge 64820 effective shield HP 100% Stable
Change a mag amp for a CN Invul and defence rating goes to 1359, 74/79.2/70/75 resists, stable at 34%
My current fit though:
4x CN Cruise Corpus A-type Hezvy Nosferatu Drone Link Augmentor
Republic Fleet Large Shield Extender CN Invul 2x Drone Navigation Computer 3x Federation Navy Omnidirectional tracking link
6x Shield power relay II
3x Core defence field purger II
5x Garde II 5x Curator II 5x Ogre II 5x Hobgoblin II
923 uniform damage rating 19373 Shield 53.1/62.5/71.9/76.6 144.8 sec recharge 334.45 hp/s peak self recharge 53441 effective shield HP Stable at 34%, running the NOS on an enemy BS will keep your cap at 100%
with the drone mods fitted the Ogre II's are really evil.
Hope my input helps

If you want real dps go active tank. 2x hardeners + SBA + Shield booster 1 sentry rig + 2 rigor rig Painter Omnidirect x2 4x bcus
Something like this. Vary missile upgrades and drone upgrades according to your skills. For example some people may prefer 3x painters and torps while some may prefer 1x painter, cruise and 2x omnidirect. Same goes for rigs.
Such rattlesnake will be close to 1000 EFFECTIVE dps while having sufficient tank for l4s.

Thanks, that kind of setup was exactly what I was looking to do, just a little more refined :) You helped a lot.
I think I shall go for the second setup - that should be more than ample for any level 4 mission that I need to run. interesting to see that the cap is stable at 34% with an invul field running.... thats rather cool.
Cheers again Tyra

This is going to be my Rattlesnake fit. The permatank fits your needs, but you'd be better off with a little more tank, something like CN invuln fields or a mission specific tank or a higher tier Pith large booster would be perfect. That last option makes you sacrifice a target painter for cap stability.
Drone link augmentor + ogre IIs + drone aggro = dead ogre IIs. IMO it makes sense to use a heavy tank that lets rats get in close and then massacre them. This keeps your drones at a closer range to cut back on travel times and puts rats that aggro your drones within torp range.
Of course, YMMV.

Edited by: Xaldor on 22/03/2010 06:25:28 I don't like sticking modules on my ship that cost 3x as much as my overpriced ship.
Also, I don't know why people dedicate so much space to boost what is feeble damage by the missile launchers, sticking 3 DG BCUs will increase the theoretical dps by 100dp from 600ish to 700ish, defenders will reduce the net effect. It is just not a huge boost imo, not big enough to warrant dropping the tank down from around 1k to 400ish.
Each to their own I guess. You need to be careful with passive tanks, once you go well beyond peak you can drop pretty fast, it is different to active tanks.

the DLA is so that your sentries can be directed to shoot things orbiting at obnoxious ranges (i have a 45 km drone range i understand it can be got up to 55?60 ish) sanshas and some guristas love the 70-80 km range, two Drone link augmentors can solve even that

If using a drone link augmenter to increase the range of your sentry drones makes sense to you, then I will in no way attempt to change your perspective.

DLAs extend drone control range, beyond which sentries cannot be ordered to attack a target. With EWDI V, drone control range is 60 km.

Ah, I didn't know the Electronic Warfare skill bonus to drone control range also applied to non-EW drones.

This whole time I've been looking at Garde IIs, which have an range of about 42km. I thought that was the optimal on all Sentries. D'oh.
