So, as I was puttering around the space lanes and having a chat with some other fine strapping young examples of modern graduates of Nerdvana U, the discussion turned to how nerdy EVE is. After various suggestions, someone dropped a real bomb.
What about making EVE into a tabletop game? We thought about it for a while and decided that while this did indeed meet the criteria for improving the nerdy factor of EVE, would it be possible? How would such a game work? WOULD such a game even work?
Thoughts?

tabletop rpg correct? cause there is already a boardgame.
just simplify the "to hit" equation. maybe use things like orbits and transversal velocity to increase effective AC? there are other space/flight rpg's, i'm sure their combat models could serve as inspiration.
of course that says nothing about the fluff.

I was thinking a tabletop RPG, not a boardgame.

The tabletop game should require one to calculate every calculation that eve normally would do.

With a proper set of basic flexible rules which are fast paced and easy to learn, excellent artwork, a good gamemaster and enthusiastic players ANY setting, may it be sci-fi, fantasy, contemporary can be big time fun. Even EVE. Not that you should play a capsuleer, that would be rather boring, though.
Start simple, become big in an epic quest.

If I remember correctly they said that they are working on an EVE pnp rpg a while back. Remember that they merged with White Wolf, the makers of the World of Darkness rpg line.
And if I am not completely mistaken I also seem to remember that they said the players would not be pod pilots but "normal" eve citizens. Of course as said it was a while back so things might have changed. Would be nice to get an update on it. ---------------------------------------- "Memories are meant to fade. Tabletop war games are worse than 'nerdy'. Many younger nerds today will say " What is a tabletop game and why should I care?". I ask that about Amiga's all the time cuz I'm cool like dat. Point is they're a dying medium like newspapers and anything with the word 'analog' in it.
