Edited by: Heradutus on 25/03/2010 00:29:32 Here it is: Being totally bored with running missions i want to do something thats extremely fun. So im very interested in a little pirating. Sounds hillarious and brings in quite a bit more money than missioning.
What im looking for: A veteran pirate to spend an hour on ventrillo with me and give me the low down on basic pirating, specifically-ransoming. I want real life events that youve seen or done. Suggestions for ships to use, ship set-up, and basic steps you take before the main event.
You do not have to be online, you do not have to be in a fleet with me, all you have to do is have the crudentials and break it down in vent for an hour. Hell you can be ganking or ransoming players off somewhere while your talking with me i dont care.
Im offering this select person 100 million isk to talk for an hour about all the bad things theyve done to people and how to get away with it. im not talking about scamming. Im talking about legitamite piracy here.
I have really strong ship skills, including covert ops, recon, t2, and t3 cruiser capabilities, but as i said ive always been a missioner.
Most important point: Im seeking an honorable pirate, I dont want someone who ransoms a player, they pay, then you blow them up anyway, thats not cool. Honor among thieves eh?
Payment will be made in full after the lesson is over, im not gonna hand you 100 mill just so you can log off. i will do a small deposit at the beggining as a gesture of good faith. I can do half payment after a half hour if its goin good then the last half at the end.
If you are the pirate i need then please post here or send an in game mail to Heradutus. Please include your eveboard toon link, and any other links like killboards that will bolster your credibility as a experienced evil doer will be very helpfull. In a few days depending on how many people show interest ill mail my chosen teacher back and we'll select a day to do it on. It will have to be late in the evening. Around 0400 eve time or 9 PST/Midnight EST...i think thats right.
Last thing, Ive read the online guides and tips , so if you think your gonna get 100 mill out of me by sitting there and reading from an online pirate guide, forget it. If im not convinced your the real deal in the first 5 minutes we'll stop so no ones time gets wasted.
This is an easy 100 million isk to the right person to sit there and brag about how to be a good pirate. So why not go for it.
thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

No, we wont be going anywhere, because quite honestly whats to stop them from ransoming me when were out there. this is over vent only. No fleet form up, just your actual in game experience.

I congratulate you on your decision to turn to a life of crime. I'll help you with some general information for free.
1 - PvP fits are nothing like PvE fits. You will need to forget everything you know about flying your ships and start again from scratch.
2 - There is no difference between killing someone for a ransom and killing someone for the lols. You don't need an honorable pirate to teach you how to PvP, you just need someone that knows how to kill.
3 - Ransoming is just a matter of NOT killing someone if they pay you. Its really easy. You either convo them or ask them in local to pay before you finish them off. Its really that simple. Go in to it ready to kill them and if they pay stop short. You will get about 70-90% of people refuse to pay, in which case you have to kill them and scoop the loot.
4 - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD do not negotiate with them. They pay or die, those are the choices. Entering in to negotiations is a stalling tactic so they can either get away or call in friends. You do NOT want to be going down that road or its going to start costing you a lot of ships.
5 - You are going to loose a lot of ships. You will get blobbed by Pi's and Anti-Pi's alike. Occasionally you will pick a fight you cant win. Its going to cost you isk while you learn, and there are no shortcuts to this.
6 - Have an alt that can bring you replacement ships/equipment. You will go -10 pretty quickly (well, -5 anyway) cutting off highsec to you until you get bored and spend 2 weeks ratting your sec back up.
7 - Lowsec mission runners are stupid (ok, not all of them) and are easy to catch. They are also FAR more likely to pay than people you just happen to find on gate/in belt/where ever. Learn to probe.

No Piracy does not earn you as much as missioning. If you have no characters to make money on you will most likely have to occasionally do some low sec exploration to make ends meet. After all a life of piracy means a life of losing ships it is pvp after all.

I'd like to add that joining a corp with likeminded people is a very big step towards having fun as a pirate. Trying to be a solo pirate on a permanent is similar to getting a papercut between your fingernail and your finger, except slightly more painful and frustrating.
And piracy doesn't just have to be around ransoming ships - most people kill ships and ransom pods.

This is not exactly true, but it does depend a lot about many things. If you're always in a large group, it's very much true. If you don't understand game mechanics well and are generally inexperienced, it's true too. Also if you prefer to fly expensive ships, especially combined with being inexperienced. However you can make good money pirating if you're solo or in a 2-3 man gang. It can't meet good mission runner's isk/h on average, but occasional jackpots of hundreds of millions or even billions of loot do happen, while knowing what you're doing helps to actually exploit that lucky situation once it happens.
Ransoms are nice too, but I seem to suck at it terribly since basically no one I asked was willing to pay so I gave up on that unless victim offers.
In short, you CAN make good profit pirating, things such as 2nd account for scouting and probing or very few yet very reliable and competent friends or both help a lot.
With medium t1 rigs costing next to nothing outfitting a tier 2 BC costs little after insurance, and it can take on large variety of ships that cost much more, especially if they are pve or simply badly fitted, which is very frequent. ISK you invest isn't large, occasional faction EANM or named gun or what not that people will drop will cover the investment and you can often get some 100 mil worth faction mwd or medium rep or warp disruptor or whatever for a more substantial profit. And yes, if you're persistent enough you'll eventually run into that legendary semi afk non aligned deadspace fitted faction bs in a mission or site.
But most important thing imo would be to rely on your own intelligence as much as possible, there might be no shame in asking but it will never substitute experience and learning from your own errors. Listening to someone for 1 hour won't teach you a lot, especially taken most people who'll be interested in doing it will be the ones who like the sound of their own voice.

-learn to pvp in a t1 frigate. Nothing says micromanagement of resourses like a ship with a small tank and dps issues. Plus nothing makes people cry more than you popping there expensive ships in something worth 5-7m :P
Also, learn everything you can about ship's optimal ranges, drone capacity, bonusses, most likely fits etc.Been able to say, hmm, he probs blaster fit with a hole in his exp resists or whatever and adjusting your optimal/ammo to suit helps a lot. pvp is very different from get in range orbit activate guns till there dead you may have gotten used to. Good luck mate o/

Edited by: Tian Nu on 25/03/2010 13:10:56 ask NOIR, i guss they will provide you whith that service,
for the ransom 80% times the guy got autoblock on so you won't even get the convo, 15% of time ppl will not trust you, so that get you 5% that will eventualy accept...
Pirating get you money from haulers you kill on gates and loot or T2/faction stuff from vrecks, don't rely on ransom.
For the pvp part the probability of someone telling you everithing they know is low even if you payd 1 bill for one hour, in EvE there is no one you can trust that say it all.
gl i hope you find someone competant (ask for kill board stats as proof) but tbh 100 mill is not much to teach someone to be good in pvp...
i forgot joining big pirate corp will not teach you any thing but to lock and orbit. cos you chance to join VETO is -100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000%

I think you also posted to confirm you are seriously full of yourself and are a raging homosexual. Granted, there is nothing wrong with being a homosexual, that is of course a life style choice, that is better suited more so for some like yourself than for others such as myself. You appear to fit well into that life choice, this is all I'm saying.
To further add note on this subject, I just mean to emphasize on the "raging" part, as raging tends to happen when someone is out of control. Therefore, theoretically you are a out of control homosexual, that is likely a bit to emotional in regards to an internet spaceship game.
To the OP, I wish you luck in your search to find a mentor that can fulfill your needs. I'm sure there are many out there are aren't giant throbbing ****s like this poor misguided soul is that will help you along your way.

If you're really interested in PvP hardcore...then check out Agony Unleased; they host actual PvP classes...do a search on Google or Yahoo. Also do a search for a blog called Rifter Drifter, and do some reading.
For an alternative to lowsec or nullsec piracy, consider another course of action that can possibly provide just as much if not more fun than sitting in empty lowsec systems waiting for somebody to come along. Look up a blog called mylootyourtears, and another one called handsoffmyloots. Be sure and read all of the archives for some real laughs.
