Planets got overhauled, star field updated.
Isn't it time to replace that smokey (doesn't even look like nebula) background with some really cool realistic space graphics? ___________________________________________________ CSM - Bring back Medium Shader! |

Those nebulae were made with ink blobs in a fish tank. I say keep them.

If you want to see "realistic" empty space, you're welcome to turn off your monitor while playing. But don't ruin it for the rest of us. Oh, and, back to FID you troll.

Wait what? This is it now graphically? I was sure the backgrounds were going to be redone at some point also to bring it all up to par. The backgrounds are the only thing that look low res and out of place now, would be a shame not to spruce them up.

The space backgrounds were updated with Dominion. As nice as they are I don't see the same depth with them as I do with planets. The planets are so well done you can orbit them at high altitudes, look at them and really feel like the surface is so far below you.
The stars just don't seem that distant really. They almost seem painted.

Agree'd
The whole "spectacular nebula in every system" thing gets old. I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea. Sure, have some systems with pretty clouds and whatnot but perhaps make them rarer and implement other visual space phenomenon or even -gasp- empty space!

Will be nice to see and I don't doubt they're already in progress on some artists pc.
However, what I hope for is the addition of landmarks into the backgrounds. Something that can give each region a uniqueness of its own and some familiarity to those that persist in them or are just passing by. Like a bright light in the black void, the eve gate, visible from every system in Genesis. Swirling cosmic storms stretching around you in the Great Wildlands. Even the distant but comforting glow from the solar system Jita, like moths to a flame in the otherwise unremarkable Forge.
Landmarks that are not necessarily the back ground itself, but elements within them that can give them life and some permanence

This.
I want to see backgrounds based on region, and each region have its own identifiable "landmarks."
Oh, and spinning planets and moons, too.

I remember when you could undock and every star you saw in the sky you could fly to,but, it caused too much lag so it was taken out. Sure was nice to see the real eve universe from your ship, tho

Can't be lag, as the position of solar systems doesn't change.. Might had been performance problems with the premium graphics, but I really wonder how a modern graphics engine can run in trouble doing things its predecessor could easily do.
And yeah. Sign me in for the group who wants to see moving planets/stations/moons.. don't care if it ****s up my bookmarks, just do it.

Id bet my left à hand, that CCP will update the nebulas soon enough, it just makes no since to graphically update every aspect of the game yet leave something like this untouched.
On a side note à à CCP just created some new technology/code to get every planet in Eve too look different and unique. Now I seriously doubt that the planets are the only thing they had in mind for using this technology on (would be a waste otherwise), so I imagine they might also use it to make every system unique/different from the next.

Agreed. The current nebulas look totally out of place. People keep askin the same question about when they will ever change them but all we ever get is the usual "were workin on it" however i doubt they have been working on it for 3 years or so. I assumed they would be done in dominnion like everything else. I would love them to redo them with pretty graphics but i wouldnt mind if they just gave us an option to turn the damn things off.

As has been pointed out to you... twice... they already do spin albeit slowly (in other words at a proper rate.)
They are planets, not tops.

Upgrades I'd like to see:
(Screenshots are from X3, not as good as EVE due to being single-player, but beats EVE majorly in the immersion department.)
1. Move the warp in points for planets a lot closer, making the planets fill up an entire side of the screen to really give us a sense of scale. Maybe limit these close-warp in points to high-sec stations near planets, so 0.0 isn't adversely affected.

This includes letting us fly among a planet;s rings: http://markdangerchen.net/media/blog/2008/02/fl_e3_2001_12.jpg
2. Create really thick Nebula systems that obscure vision beyond 50km in all directions. Possibly limit the scanner and overview results as well.
3. Busier space with more NPC ships traveling around.

4. More visually stimulating station locations:
http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/908/908631/x3-terran-conflict-20080908035940915_640w.jpg
5. Defense grids around capital planets in Empire Space
http://media.photobucket.com/image/x3%20terran%20conflict/Janesee2/X3ReunionLast.jpg
6. More artistically inspired backgrounds:
http://i36.tinypic.com/nbf39y.jpg http://www.egosoft.com/games/x3tc/screenshots/x3tc_screen_044.jpg
And of course contrast this with some truly dark space...
